Parody Video Says “S” in iPhone 5S Means More of the “Same”

Apple’s flagship iPhone that will be introduced this Tuesday in Cupertino, California is rumored to be called the iPhone 5S, but what does the “S” in 5S stand for?

In the past, there were speculations that the “S” would stand for security, hinting at the underlying fingerprint sensor technology that Apple would be embedding underneath the iconic dimpled home button that has remained largely unchanged since the device’s original introduction in 2007.

Now, a parody video that is filmed using Apple’s directorial style to highlight the design, which would usually feature Jonny Ive and other executives talking about how great the Apple design is, has been uploaded to YouTube.

That video, created by YouTube personality Matthias, suggests that the “S” in the iPhone 5S would stand for “Same.” You can view the video as we’ve embedded it below.

The video mocks Apple’s “S” generation phone, which had debuted since the iPhone 3GS. The S generation phone design usually comes with some incremental upgrade, but largely keeps the overall hardware design of the previous model–the iPhone 3GS has the same styling as the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 4S has a very similar design as the iPhone 4. Now, with the iPhone 5S, it’s believed that Apple will maintain the same continuity of design from the iPhone 5, and incremental upgrades may include a newer, faster processor, faster 4G LTE-Advanced networking support in countries where the mobile broadband protocol is supported, a fingerprint sensor, and upgraded memory capacities that max out at 128 GB of storage.
