Nokia Lumia 1520 Rumored for September 26 Launch

Nokia’s rumored 6-inch phablet smartphone, dubbed the Lumia 1520, will supposedly launch on September 26, according to Twitter-based mobile insider evleaks. However, no further information has been disclosed. Nokia hasn’t sent out any invites yet for a launch event, but if the phone is set to arrive toward the end of the month, the Finnish company could have an event lined up right around the corner.

The Lumia 1520 has been rumored since late July, and it looks to be the successor to the Lumia 1020 which was just recently launched. It may not be a direct successor, as the two phones might just simply coexist with each other, but the 1520 could be the next Nokia smartphone to get if you’re not set on all of the 41-megapixel camera hype.

The 1520 will have a decent camera, though, rumored to be sporting a sensor that will be able to shoot 5-megapixel and 16-megapixel photos at the same time, which is a similar ability to that of the Lumia 1020’s camera. Other than that, the 1520 will sport a 1080p display, making it one of the first Windows Phone devices to pack a full HD display.

While the September 26 date seems out of the blue, it’s actually not. It’s in the same time window that the rumored Nokia Sirius Windows RT tablet is set to make an appearance, so it’s possible that the company will reveal both a new tablet and a new smartphone at the end of the month.

If you’re curious to see what the 1520 might look like, we’ve already seen a couple of leaked photos showing off the exterior. Frankly, it looks quite similar to other Nokia devices, except that this one will be way bigger, thanks to the larger 6-inch display. It also won’t have a huge bulge sticking out of the back that the 1020 has with the 41-megapixel camera.

The rumored launch of the 1520 is also really close to Microsoft’s confirmed September 23 launch of the new Surface 2 tablet, and with the company acquiring Nokia’s mobile division, the two could be conspiring back-to-back events, with Microsoft announcing their new gear first, and then Nokia’s turn just a couple days later. We’re not sure exactly what Nokia will do, so we’ll ultimately just have to wait and find out, but it seems like late September will be a busy time for Microsoft.
