The HTC One X Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Sense 5 roll out continues as rumors swirl about Sense 5.5, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, Android 4.4 KitKat what’s next for the aging flagship.

Several weeks ago, HTC began rolling out Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Sense 5 for the HTC One X, its flagship from last year that took the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 head on. The software brings the device up from Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and the old Sense 4+, offering users a host of new features that should make the phone feel fresh.

The updates continue to roll out as French carrier SFR has announced today that it has issued the long-awaited HTC One X Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5 update for its device, an update that brings HTC BlinkFeed more. The update is rolling out to users today and those who are on SFR in France simply need to check their settings to see if the update is available.

A HTC One X Sense 5.5 update is now a possibility.

A HTC One X Sense 5.5 update is now a possibility.

What this means is that another carrier has beaten AT&T to the HTC One X Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5 update, something that should not come as much of a surprise given AT&T’s performance with the HTC One X Android 4.1 update which rolled out long after other carriers had issued their updates.

Thus far, the carrier hasn’t offered up any information on the update, leaving owners wondering what’s next for the AT&T HTC One X. And with rumors swirling, it’s an extremely difficult upgrade path to pinpoint.

For one, we’ve heard that at least one carrier will be offering up Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5.5, a new version of Sense, for its HTC One X. Vodafone seemed to confirm the news yesterday in an update to its software upgrade timeline. What this means is that it’s possible that the AT&T HTC One X will receive a similar update though it would be strange for other HTC One X owners to be left out.

So that seems to point to another update after Android 4.2 and Sense 5. But will it come with Android 4.3 or Android 4.4? It’s impossible to say right now.

It’s looking like Android 4.2.2 may be the end of the road. Rumors suggest that Android 4.3 and Android 4.4 are both out for the HTC One X, this according to a noted HTC insider.

For now, users should indulge in Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5 and try not to think about the future because at the moment, it’s looking extremely bleak.

I hope they’ll bring Android 4.4 KitKat for the HTC One X. But even the 4.3 update is likely to be so far away, maybe near the impossible. I’ll go with rooting my device and use CyanogenMod if they don’t bring it.
