iPad 5 & Gold iPad mini 2 Renders Show Touch ID

Attention is now on the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2, Apple’s new iPad models we expect to see later this year.

We’ve already seen numerous iPad 5 leaks showing the new iPad mini inspired design, and today we get a look at what the iPad 5 could look like with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor that Apple debuted on the iPhone 5s.

So far there are no solid leaks indicating Apple is planning to integrated Touch ID on the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2, but it would make sense for Apple to bring the security feature to the new iPad.

During the Apple event last week, Apple also announced a gold iPhone 5s color option. Apple currently offers the iPad mini in black and silver/white, and we could see a gold iPad mini 2 option later this year.

While we are on the fence about the gold iPhone 5s, this gold iPad mini 2 render looks incredible.

Numerous iPad 5 front panels show a new design with thinner bezels and home button cutout the looks similar to those used in earlier models. The same goes for iPad mini 2 front panels which look nearly identical to the one on the current iPad mini.

That doesn’t rule out Touch ID for the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2. In fact, if Apple is hoping this security feature will help the iPhone 5S appeal to business customers and that it will replace their password for iTunes purchases there is a good chance it will come to the iPad lineup.

The iPhone 5s leaks up until the week of the presentation featured a similar size home button opening as earlier models, without a steel ring that makes up part of the Touch ID sensor.

One factor that could force Apple to delay adding a Touch ID sensor to the iPad line is production issues. Apple suppliers are reportedly having trouble keeping up with the demand, which could limit sales on the iPhone 5s release date later this week.

Rumors suggest Apple is planning an iPad event for October when we could see the new iPad 5 and an iPad mini 2 with Retina Display. The iPad 5 release could land in October or November, as well as the iPad mini 2. Analysts are still split on whether the iPad mini 2 will feature a higher resolution Retina Display.

Apple is reportedly working on the iOS 7.1 update as well as iOS 7.0.2 and iOS 7.0.1 updates one of which could arrive alongside the new iPads later this year.
