Nexus 5 Release Date Getting Closer

Published

on

The LG D820 is widely believed to be LG’s version of the Nexus 5 and it’s the LG D820 that has been spotted passing through Wi-Fi certifications today, a sign that the Nexus 5 release date is passing the necessary roadblocks.

Just a short time ago, the LG D820 was caught passing through the FCC with a shape that resembled the Nexus leak from Google’s now pulled Android 4.4 KitKat video. It also arrived with many of the specifications that were rumored for the Nexus 5 including LTE, a Snapdragon 800 processor and Android 4.4 KitKat.

Shortly after that, a similar device, this time with its design intact, was spotted inside an LG G2 FCC filing. It’s not clear if that was a mistake on LG’s part or something that was done on purpose. Whatever the case, the photos from the second filing seemed to match up with the LG D820 filing, something that again seemed to point to the LG D820 being LG’s Nexus 5.

Yesterday, the Nexus 4 went out of stock completely, a sign that a new Nexus smartphone launch is imminent and it now appears that Google may be making the final preparations for the device’s arrival, something that fits in nicely with yesterday’s news.

Two versions of the LG D820 have been spotted passing through their Wi-Fi certifications by Blog of Mobile. The LG-D820_C and LG-D820_S passed through Wi-Fi certification yesterday meaning both device are one step closer to release. And while it remains unconfirmed, this likely means that the Nexus 5 release date has inched closer as well.

The Wi-Fi certifications don’t reveal much else in terms of new information but again, they are a sign of a possible Nexus 5 release date getting closer.

Rumors suggest that Google could be announcing the Nexus 5 alongside Android 4.4 KitKat on October 14th, just a day ahead of Apple’s rumored iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 announcement. That remains unconfirmed but given that all rumors have pointed to October and fact that the Nexus 4 launched in October, it appears likely.

The Nexus 5 release date should be getting closer.

Typically, we see a release date emerge a couple of weeks after a Nexus smartphone launch so it could be that we see it emerge in late October or early November.

Nexus 5 rumors also suggest that the Nexus 5 could also be coming from Motorola though with LG rumors so plentiful, it could be that a Motorola Nexus joins the LG Nexus on stage in just a few weeks time.

The LG Nexus 5 was spotted lurking in photos and on video yesterday, all but confirming its arrival. The Nexus from Motorola, if there is such a thing, still hasn’t made an appearance.

Do you know why there won’t be a Motorola Nexus? Because of the Moto X fiasco. Both the Moto X and LG G2 were announced within days of each other, but Google got an early look at them both months before. Moto X, 720p 4.7″, bad camera. LG G2, 1080p 5.2″, 13MP camera with OIS, oh and Snapdragon 800.

BOTH PHONES CAME OUT THE SAME TIME. Both phones cost same amount of money on contract ($200), both phone cost the same amount of money off contract (over $600). If I gave YOU $600 and showed you the LG G2 and Moto X, which would you choose? The LG G2, every time. THAT is why there will be no Motorola Nexus. Google will not have a real Nexus and also a runner up.
