Is This the Space Gray iPad Mini 2?

A new set of alleged iPad mini 2 photos show a new color for Apple’s small iPad, which matches the iPhone 5s’ new black hue and could point to Apple bringing a Gold iPad mini option to the market as well.

When Apple announced the Space Gray iPhone 5s last week it also brought the color option to the iPod line, which leads us to believe they are planning a Space Grey iPad 5 and iPad mini 2, to replace the black option on shelves and in users’ hands.

The new gray color option is lighter than the slate previously offered on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, and could possibly be Apple’s quick fix to the glaring and easy to see scratches on the black iPhone 5 and iPad mini.

This morning a set of alleged iPad mini 2 photos are online, showing off what looks like a Space Gray iPad mini 2. NoWhereElse.fr shares photos showing the iPad mini 2 back plate in new color options.

Earlier iPad mini 2 leaks included a slate and a silver option, and the new leak shows what looks like a Silver back and a Space Grey iPad mini 2 back side by side.

Apple has not announced any new iPad color options for the iPad mini 2 or the iPad 5, both of which we expect to see in the next several weeks. If Apple is planning a Space Gray option for the rest of the lineup, an iPad 5 in this color makes sense as well, especially if it helps with scratches.

Rumors suggest the iPad mini 2 will gain a Retina Display, but sources still disagree on this feature, so we

The iPad mini 2 photos don’t show a new Gold iPad mini 2 color option. At this point there are no rumors of an iPad 5 or iPad mini 2 in Gold, but thanks to renders we can get an idea of what it could look like.

This render also shows what Touch ID, Apple’s fingerprint sensor would look like on the iPad mini 2 and iPad 5, but again there are no credible rumors that this feature will make it into the iPad refresh in October.

Apple doesn’t always bring new colors to every model, and Gold is a bigger experiment than Space Grey, but it’s likely only a matter of time before we see leaks for a Gold iPad mini 2 if Apple has one on hand for October.

This week a rumor arrived claiming Apple is planning a special event for October 15th for the iPad 5, iPad mini 2, new MacBook Pro units, a new iMac, the Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks.
