How to Block Calls, Texts and FaceTime Chats on iPhone in iOS 7

Published

on

Sometime you get calls from spammers, or maybe your ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend keeps texting and won’t go away. In iOS 7, there is now an easy way to block a number from contacting you, either through a voice call, a text message, or a FaceTime chat. Users can create their own blacklist, if you will, and cut ties with those folks that are just plain annoying.

In iOS 7, there are a couple of ways to block someone from contacting you, and we’ll show you the different methods you can use to make sure you never hear from a spammer again.

How to Block Contacts

There are two ways you can block a number to prevent them from contacting you. The first way is done in the Settings app, and you can choose a contact from your contact list to block. If it’s an unknown number, you can block it through the Phone app, which we’ll show you in a bit.

These are three different sections, but from here on out, the instructions are the same for each. Tap on one and then head to Blocked. Tap on Add New… and choose a contact from your contact list that you want to block. Repeat this step for Messages and FaceTime.

How to Block Unknown Contacts

To block a phone number that you don’t know (most likely a spammer or that annoying ex-boyfriend), open up the Phone app and tap on the Recents tab at the bottom. This will give you a list of all your recent incoming and outgoing calls that you made. Next to each number on the right side is a lowercase “i” with a circle around it. Tap on that and scroll down until you see Block this Caller. Apple will warn you that “you will not receive phone calls, messages, or FaceTime from people on the block list.” If you’re okay with that, tap on Block Contact to finish the job.

For what it’s worth, the above method will also work with your known contacts as well, so you technically don’t even have to go into the Settings app to add a blocked contact; you can do it all right from the Phone app. However, either method is available at your disposal, and you can decide which one is faster and easier for you.

Unknown numbers can not be blocked using the info button in recent calls. There’s no phone number listed for which to enable blocking.
