HTC One Android 4.3 Update Details Bring More Questions Than Answers
As promised, HTC President Jason Mackenzie delivered HTC One Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update details today. However, those details have unfortunately brought more questions than answers as the company failed to deliver any specific timing for the HTC One update on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon.
Several weeks ago, Mackenzie took to Twitter to announce that the company would be delivering two updates to its users in the month of September. The first, the Droid DNA Android 4.3 and Sense 5 update. The second, the HTC One Android 4.3 update across all SKUs. Last week, we learned that the Droid DNA would likely be getting Android 4.2 and Sense 5 before it gets Android 4.3 and today, we finally have some details about the HTC One Android 4.3 update in the U.S., only, they bring more questions than answers.

Late last week, Mackenzie said that he would release details early this week in regards to the HTC One Android 4.3 update in the U.S. Today, he did just that, announcing that Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for owners of the HTC One Developers Edition in the U.S. would begin rolling out this week. Those in Canada will see the update by the end of the month.

As for that promise for an Android 4.3 update across SKUs, HTC failed to deliver. Instead, Mackenzie says that HTC is “still working hard & optimistic for U.S. carrier certification.” U.S. carriers need to approve updates before they are released, something that has given updates trouble in the past.

While Mackenzie is optimistic, September is running out, and given that he didn’t express any specific timing, it’s possible that the HTC One Android 4.3 update for carrier-branded devices will miss September.
It’s possible that we could see a carrier or two roll their updates out in September but at this point, the details have only added questions that need to be answered. And with many HTC One owners in the U.S. complaining about issues with the device’s camera, many are hoping that those questions are answered in the near future.
At the very least, those who snagged the developer edition should be on the look out for an update later on this week.

I have the developer edition. And how is this a fail? A “fail” on who? HTC isn’t responsible for carrier certification that’s on your respective carrier.
The article is also a bit disingenuous in asserting that HTC failed on their promise. Especially considering that the article then goes on to say that carrier certification is what frustrates updates “in the past”.

I have an HTC One and love this phone, but for a “flagship” phone that was supposed to launch with 4.2 (and we’re now on 4.3), this is an epic fail. Google will be releasing the next iteration pretty soon. I know carriers bear some of the blame, but this is getting ridiculous.

I’m sorry google and Samsung are having problems competing with apple ? Google accounts for almost 70% of smartphones on the market and Samsung sells just as many if not more smartphones than apple

As of last week iPhone made up 44% of the smartphone market and most of their users upgrade to the latest ios within 24 hours. HTC has seriously failed and this is my first and last HTC product.

HTC hasn’t failed anything, stop being such a narrow minded idiot. You are just another Apple sheep. Carriers control when you get the update NOT HTC. As this article said, HTC already released the update. If you want the update so bad then just download the rom, unless you’re too stupid for that, too. I’ve been on 4.3 since June and it is way better than iOS 7 in almost every way.

Vincent, carriers may have the final say before approving a rollout of an update, but the fact that it took this long for HTC to even get an update on their flagship device is sad. How long have we been stuck on 4.1.2? 4.3 is the most current version and Google will be announcing their latest flavor soon.
Regarding downloading a custom ROM, that’s pretty easy to do, but you’re missing the point. We shouldn’t have to rely on third party tools and scripts to get our updates.
Also, no need for the name calling and personal attacks, not everyone who has a complaint about Android updates is an Apple worshipper. I love the HTC One and don’t care for an iPhone, but the one thing Apple does great is user experience. You really can’t deny that.
