Motorola Sliver II Bluetooth Headset Review

Published

on

The Motorola Sliver II is a high-end Bluetooth headset from Motorola that hides behind your ear and delivers great sounding audio for phone calls, video chats and listening to audiobooks.

The small swivel design offers a Bluetooth headset that turns off with a twist to prevent accidental dialing in a pocket and to preserve battery life. A twist to the left or right turns it back on, and will answer a call if the phone is ringing. You can also slide the earpiece up and down for a better fit.

When connected and in your ear the Motorola Sliver II announces the caller name and allows you to answer or ignore the call by speaking either command. In our testing it works very well on the iPhone 5, iPhone 5s and the Moto X. It should work very well with other Android devices.

Despite the lack of any boom, the Motorola Sliver II delivers good sound quality to call recipients with Motorola’s CrystalTalk tri-mic technology. This is one example of a feature living up to a fancy name.

Callers sound very good, especially while making calls or video chats over FaceTime Audio or a Google Hangout which delivers vastly better sound than a traditional phone call.

Th volume is loud enough to hear in average to noisy environments, with volume buttons on the top edge of the headset. There is a small button at the base of the headset that activates voice commands like Siri, etc.

There is no pause button, which is a minor annoyance when listening to audiobooks with the headset, but twisting the headset to off works in a pinch.

The Motorola Sliver II range is good, and while promotional materials claim 300 feet, in a real world setting with walls in the mix, expect to stay within 15 to 20 feet of the device before quality drops. In my home office I am able to walk throughout my first floor and out the front door before connectivity became an issue.

The Motorola Sliver II battery life is good at about four hours on a charge, and the carrying case delivers about two additional full charges to stretch out to 12 hours of actual use without the need to plug in to an outlet. The charging case is especially handy for heading out for a busy day. The case and headset can charge by Micro USB.

The Motorola Sliver II isn’t cheap at $129 from most retailers or $109 at Amazon, but for the price users get a long-lasting easy to recharge Bluetooth headset that is comfortable to wear and that delivers good call quality.

I just bought one today and I’m highly impressed! This by far the best Bluetooth I’ve ever purchased.

Sound quality great, comfortable, and wise design, but may have to abandon. On second unit. The voice of your caller randomly cuts out (although they can still hear you), and there are extremely loud random spurts of static that is so loud and alarming, it causes me to tear piece out of ear! Tried different phones, master reset, and I’m still having issues. Called Motorola, and they simply apologized and claimed notation would be made in my file. They followed up a few days later to ask if the master reset worked. When I told them no, they thanked me for my time and claimed they would update my file. Hmmm…

Thank you, Motorola, for your stellar customer service, for typing things into my file, and motivating me not to purchase your products in the future.

I’ve had this Blu Tooth for about a week and it seems to be excellent with all audio except during a phone call. It is like it has an auto half volume function that I have not yet been able to get controll of.

Does caller name announce work with iPhone? I’ve read elsewhere that it says the 10 digit phone number and full names only work with Android devides with MotoSpeak.

Sliver 2 box says text read out, reply, without even touching the phone? How? Motospeak is not compatible with it. I feel ripped off and there’s false advertising to boot. Maybe a small class action suit will teach motorola a lesson. Anyone?

Had the sliver 1 and the issue was the twist on and off feature lasted about a week. The boom breaks at the top if you treat it bad as I did. I will try this sliver 2 and see how things go. Had the 1 for about 2 years and it gave out

Just bought the Motorola Silver II and so far it is the best blue tooth device I have ever owned. It is very comfortable and so far great sound quality. I had a plantronics with the boom mic but I found the boom to be intrusive. The device stays put and does not hurt my ear at all.

I have had my silver 2 for about 4 hrs. I have talked to two people, and both tell me the background noise on there end was awful, I drive truck for a living and this is not acceptable, it will be going back tomorrow.

Been running mine all day today for the first time. Hardly know it’s there. Does not hurt my ear like previous ones. I am very happy with it .. just wish the volume was a bit louder though.

Bought it a couple days ago seems to work fine other than when you ask it for something in your contacts it doesn’t understand what you’re saying ever

I’ve had eight of these (we usually use four at a time on phones or charging). They start failing after 3-4 months but Best Buy keeps replacing them under extended warranty.

Twist boom is a common failure point
Earbud rubber doesn’t stay securely in ear

    Audio quality complaints from callers
    Background noise processing overzealous
Thus, the “4 hr. battery” only provides about 2.5 hrs of usable audio quality — at best

The Plantronics Voyager Edge, while with a boom has similar tech, but user-controlled volume and a recharging case is available on their site. I liked it, but it fell apart six most into use. It could be fixed, but I’m not that patient and want a smaller headset with similar features.

Using the Sliver 2 with an iPhone 5. Siri volume is exceptionally low, but everything else is outstanding so far with the headset. Any suggestions on what to do for the low Sri issue? I believe changing the volume via the headset only impacts the listening aspect.
