A new Nexus 5 launch date has been rumored heading into October as a date near the end of October now joins the rumored October 14th launch date as a possibility. The same rumor also suggests that the Nexus 5 release date could be at the end of October as well.
Thanks to a leak in an Android 4.4 KitKat video, FCC filings, and numerous credible leaks, we know that a new LG Nexus smartphone is very real. The name still isn’t known but the device is currently being called the Nexus 5 due to it being the fifth-generation Nexus and because it will sport a display that is near 5-inches in size.
Google still isn’t talking about the Nexus 5 though rumors suggest that it will be sometime later this month. Several weeks ago, a rumor suggested that Google would be showing off the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat in October, specifically, on October 14th. Nestle, which partnered with Google on Android 4.4, claimed that the software would be out sometime in October though it declined to give a date.
A new report from TechRadar claims that the Nexus 5 will be announced in late October, date unknown, and it will also be released in late October as well. Last year, Google announced the Nexus 4 in late October but didn’t release the device until mid-November. The new timing is thought to be for the United Kingdom, though we did see last year’s Nexus 4 arrive for several regions at the same time, meaning, this timing could apply to the United States as well.
The report also claims that it will be sold for half the price of the iPhone 5s which costs $650 unlocked. If true, it could mean that the price of the Nexus 5 will hover somewhere between $299 and $399. The Nexus 4 started out with a $299 unlocked price tag, something that made it an extremely attractive proposition to buyers.
Without confirmation from Google, it’s impossible to say when the Nexus 5 will launch and get released, but at this point, all signs are pointing to an arrival in October, it’s just not clear when. Google typically sends out media invites before its launch events, meaning, buyers will know about its launch ahead of time.
The device is expected to employ some high-powered hardware to go along with its Android 4.4 KitKat software. Leaks have revealed a 1080p display that is around 5-inches in size, a Snapdragon 800 processor, 8MP camera, and a design that features a black matte finish with a large Nexus logo plastered across it. IT looks very similar to the logo found on the Nexus 7.
