HTC EVO 4G LTE Android 4.3 & Sense 5 Confirmed for 2013

While there was a bit of doom and gloom surrounding future HTC EVO 4G LTE updates, HTC President Jason Mackenzie has confirmed that Sprint’s aging flagship will indeed be getting a new version of Android but that it will be Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Sense 5 and not Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with HTC’s new user interface.

Several days ago, a known HTC insider claimed that the chances of an HTC EVO 4G LTE update in the future were diminishing thanks to a lack of movement behind the scenes. While LlabTooFeR didn’t rule out the update, he did not appear confident. Fortunately, in this case, it appears that his fears were unnecessary because HTC itself has gone on the record to confirm an update for the HTC EVO 4G LTE later on this year and it’s not the update that many have been hoping for.

Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G LTE, which arrived shortly after the HTC One X on AT&T, is currently running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, an update that it received last December. Early rumors suggested that like the HTC One X, it would be getting Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Sense 5. Turns out, that’s not going to be the case as HTC’s Jason Mackenzie, who has been dishing out information to HTC owners in the United States left and right, claims that the device will instead be getting Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Sense 5.

Mackenzie promises that the update will be out before the end of the year, no specific time frame given, which of course means it should arrive by January. Of course, HTC has a track record of making promises that it can’t keep, the HTC One Android 4.3 update and Droid DNA Android 4.3 update being two prime examples, so HTC EVO 4G LTE owners will want to temper expectations.

At the very least, this is confirmation that HTC is still working on getting an update out for the aging smartphone and that it likely won’t remain on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and Sense 4. It’s also good news for HTC One X owners who have been dealing with rumors suggesting that they might never get an Android 4.3 update.

Really great news as this phone was Sprint Flaghship Android phone from HTC. HTC flagship phones should always have updates and quickly. However, this my last HTC phone moving to Nexus line and will make sure others to stay away from HTC for this reason ONLY! Other than that I love their phones and the work they put in it.

If you’re a fan of stock android a nexus phone is fine. I prefer HTC sense. Loved my evo v virgin mobile. Same as evo 3d sprint. It came with ics while sprint version was stuck on gingerbread & didn’t get ics until nearly 8 months later. Then no jellybean upgrade. I got fed up & got sprint HTC one. Sprint was 1st in USA to get 4.3 on HTC one. Been very pleased with HTC updates James. They really stepped up there game James so be patient it’s coming. It will make the lte an even better device.
