Moto Maker Tipped to Bring Moto X Customization to Best Buy

Published

on

When Google and Motorola announced the new Moto X smartphone would be customizable with an array of colors, accents, and even wood on the back, many were extremely excited. Sadly once the device launched earlier this year we learned Moto Maker was exclusive to AT&T, and even then, you had to get a voucher and pre-pay for the device before you could even use the service.

Today reports are floating around thanks to Phone Arena that Moto Maker customization stands and software booths will be arriving in Best Buy locations nationwide. Meaning users will be able to walk into a Best Buy and purchase their new Moto X smartphone, customize it right on site (should they choose) or take the voucher home and finish the customizations. Of course you’ll then have to wait a few days for it to ship from Motorola’s plant in Texas, where they’re assembled and finalized.

The Moto Maker program will be expanding to Verizon next month, where Big Red’s customers will be able to completely tweak the colors, accents, and even background wallpaper on the Moto X to their liking. Motorola’s also letting users engrave words into the back as well, similar to Apple’s iPod option.

Unfortunately this rumor doesn’t come with any additional details regarding other carrier support for the Moto X customizations, but the leakster does state we’ll be seeing the Moto Maker software in Best Buy stores in the “next few weeks.” Which would put Best Buy in a perfect spot to launch the service for Verizon a few weeks later on the rumored November 11th date.

We loved the Moto X in our full review, and even gave it an Editors’ Choice Award. Being able to walk into a nearby Best Buy and give a spin yourself, then puchase and customize it all on-site sounds pretty good. We’ve heard talks of Google working with Best Buy for Google Glass, but maybe they’ve also been planning a booth for the new Motorola smartphone too. We’ll have to wait and see.
