New Nokia Lumia 2520 Tablet Details Emerge

Published

on

When the Nokia Lumia 2520 debuts later this month, it’ll cost users $499 and come with 32GB of internal storage with the option to add more.

At least that’s according to information leaked to WPCentral. Citing a source who filled them in on Nokia’s tablet plans this morning, the outlet says that when the device launches later this month it’ll be available on AT&T and Verizon, the United States two largest carriers. While the device’s official launch date on AT&T remains a mystery, it’s this leaker’s assumption that Verizon users will get the device on November 17th or November 18th.

As for offering users a color choice besides the bright red design that’s been pictured in most of the device’s leaks allegedly, users can look forward to picking up the device in black or white. What’s really interesting here is that outlet says the device will ship with Windows 8 and not Windows RT.

That’s an important distinction because, Windows RT doesn’t allow users to install applications outside of the Windows Store. Instead, users can only download applications from Microsoft’s Windows Store. If the Lumia 2520 comes equipped with Windows 8, it’ll mark the first mainstream tablet to run the operating system with built-in support for wireless data networks. Microsoft’s own Surface devices aren’t likely to see LTE support until next year. Leaks earlier this month indicated that the device would ship with Windows RT, not Windows 8.

This leak indicates that users should expect a 6.7-inch rear-facing camera that uses the Carl Zeiss optics Nokia includes in its mid-to-high range smartphones too. AT&T and Verizon will get versions of the device, however only Microsoft’s own stores will sell the devices in-store. Meaning, users will have to trek to one of Microsoft’s locations or order the device online.

This information fills in most of the gaps from earlier reports. Posts from Microsoft watcher Paul Thurrott indicated that device would feature a quad-core Qualcomm processor, with a 10.1-inch display IPS display that is capable of high-definition video playback.

Nokia recently confirmed that it’ll hold a press event on October 22nd. That is the same day Microsoft plans to make its Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 available to users. It’s likely that Nokia could use this event to launch the Lumia 2520 and the new Nokia Lumia 1520 tablet that has also surfaced in recent leaks.

Travis – It is running an ARM CPU, it is running Windows RT 8.1 not Windows 8 (that is an x86 OS). The WPCentral article calls out that it is running Windows RT 8.1 (same as Surface 2)
