Xbox One Release Date Will Arrive with Extra Units in Stores
If you weren’t able to get in on the latest round of Xbox One Day One pre-orders there is still hope for finding one on the actual Xbox One release date in November.
Microsoft expects the Xbox One will sell out this holiday, but it is hopeful that shoppers will be able to walk into a retailer to buy the Xbox One on November 22nd. Despite retailer listings which may show delivery dates later than November 22nd, Microsoft plans to deliver all Xbox One Day One pre-orders on time.
For users who missed out on the Xbox One pre-orders and are just starting to look for a place to buy an Xbox One for the holidays, there is still hope, even though it’s a good idea to pre-order one anyway just in case you cannot find one at a retail store.
Microsoft shared the following statement about Xbox One release date availability for users who did not pre-order.
“While we do not share specific numbers of pre-orders, we will be able to fulfill all official pre-orders and will have units available at retail in our 13 launch markets on November 22. Based on early demand projections we are already anticipating that Xbox One will be sold out this holiday. We are encouraging consumers interested in Xbox One to preorder now or shop early as we anticipate selling every unit we deliver to retail this holiday.” – Microsoft Spokesperson
Xbox One Day One pre-orders sold out in a few hours at GameStop, when the retailer received an additional allotment of Xbox One Day One consoles which it bundled with popular Xbox One games. Currently there are no retailers taking Xbox One Day One pre-orders, but Amazon and other retailers are taking pre-orders for the standard edition which may not arrive until after the holidays.
It’s not clear yet where consumers will have the best luck finding an Xbox One on release day without a pre-order, but if Microsoft is able to pull off its plans we should see some units arrive at major retailers like Walmart, Best Buy and GameStop. Users who are close to a Microsoft Store may also find these locations with an Xbox One release day surplus. Companies often favor their retail stores for major launches as a way to get consumers in to see what else they sell, in this case the Surface 2 and other Windows 8.1 devices.
As the Xbox One release date approaches we will share further tips on finding an Xbox One before the holidays. Given the proximity of the launch to Black Friday some retailers may offer Black Friday Xbox One bundles to convince shoppers to wait in line for hours, or days, to buy an Xbox One before Christmas.
