Nexus 5 Launch Date Evidence Mounts

Published

on

The Nexus 5 launch date has once again been rumored for October with a new report suggesting that LG and Google will be showing off the Nexus 5 at some point this month. And while no official date is currently known, consumers should feel confident that Google is going to deliver a brand new Nexus 5, from LG, at some point this month.

Update: Nexus 5 Release Imminent – Price and Details Arrive from Google

Rumors have been swirling in recent weeks in regard to Google’s new Nexus smartphone. The device, currently called Nexus 5, is supposedly going to be replacing the Nexus 4 as the company’s flagship Nexus smartphone on the Google Play Store. Rumors also suggest that the device could be joined by a low cost LTE version of the Nexus 4 though that remains unconfirmed.

This is likely LG's version of the Nexus 5.

What is all but confirmed though is the fact that the Nexus 5 is coming soon along with a number of high-end features including a 5-inch 1080p display, quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 8MP camera, a brand new design that is different than the one found on the Nexus 4, LTE data, and the new Android 4.4 KitKat. Rumors have suggested a starting price tag of $399.

Also not clear is when Google plans to launch the Nexus 5. All signs currently point to October alongside the Android 4.4 KitKat update and a new Nexus 10 from Asus. Today, more evidence has arrived pointed to a launch in October with Korean publication ETNews suggesting that LG and Google will showcase the Nexus 5 this month and that it will be “released” in October as well.

Android 4.4 KitKat will apparently be coming in October.

This comes a day after Android 4.4 KitKat release date rumors swirled and pointed to a possible launch on October 28th. Google has remained mum about a launch date and it’s still not clear if the company will host an event or simply issue a press release detailing its different products. Given that it has new software and a possible Nexus smartwatch as well, we doubt that the company will skip on stage demonstrations.

Earlier rumors suggested that the company may have been targeting a launch near the end of October with a release inside of the same month. Whatever the case, Google has once again managed to keep consumers on their toes, though it looks like the Nexus 5 launch date should be coming sometime within the next two weeks. It’s now just a matter of announcing the date.

This is torture. I broke my Nexus 4 and I don’t want to buy another one RIGHT before the Nexus 5 comes out. So meanwhile I’m stuck with this ancient blackberry curve. BB OS 6! It’s just a step above a feature phone!

I’m starting to get bored off this now. Just hurry up and release the price so I can judge whether it’s worth considering…

I think it will be worth considering, even if it costs as much as an unlocked iPhone. While I had to pay 450 bucks (damn taxes) for the Nexus 4, the $60 savings per month on my plan means that the phone has already paid for itself versus say an HTC one on contract.

Depending on your plan options, it can really be worth it. I am going for a Nexus 5 for sure, and by next year at this time, I can consider another phone. I can also sell the Nexus 4 to help pay for the Nexus 5.

Having a Nexus device means no carrier bloatware, no nasty hidden tracking software like CarrierIQ etc (excepting Google itself of course), no contracts, and no worries about crazy prices when overseas. There is also the benefit of the regular updates!

Long and short of it is this: you should at least consider the Nexus 5, regardless of the price. Honestly, I think it would be crazy not to.

I hope they stick to the same pricing as the N4. The $350 price point is a total separation from the competition on smart phones. Also, upgrading from my current N4 is just easier to swallow at $350 than it is at $400 for some reason. It’s only $50, but it must have something to do with crossing that $400 threshold that makes me want to wait and stick with my current phone. The N4 has been a beast and rock solid!

Rumor, speculation. Great grounds for a article.

    Great speculation, not reporting.
