Microsoft Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 Go One Sale Tonight

Published

on

Users looking to get their hands on the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 can head to their local Microsoft Store to pick up the device at midnight tonight.

Microsoft own retail stores and Best Buy are just one of the many places where users can pick up the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 beginning today. Users looking to purchase one of Microsoft’s upgraded tablets from Best Buy and Staples will have to wait until their local store opens at its regular time.

However, many of Microsoft’s stores are honoring the occasion by holding midnight launch parties, complete with giveaways and the chance to see recording Artist Pitbull give a concert at the grand opening for the Microsoft Store in Orlando, Florida.

While devices won’t go on sale at the Microsoft Store until Midnight, Microsoft says that festivities and trivia quizzes will begin at 10 p.m. at many but not all of its locations.

Announced last month, the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 are internal upgrades for the Surface RT and Surface Pro tablets that Microsoft debuted last year. Whereas users blasted the Surface RT for being too slow and having a mediocre screen, the Surface 2 includes a faster processor and high-definition display. Microsoft has also added a high-speed USB 3.0 port for speedier file transfers. The Surface 2 begins at $449 for a device with 32GB of storage and no Touch Cover accessory.

The Surface 2 still features the same Windows RT operating system that prohibits users from installing applications to the device’s Desktop interface.

Users upgrading from the Surface Pro to the Surface Pro 2 can expect the $899 laptop-tablet hybrid’s battery to last 75% longer thanks to the device’s Intel Haswell Processor. It also doesn’t include a Touch Cover but does have 64GB of on-board storage and a bundled stylus.

A line of updated Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 accessories will also launch tonight as well. They include an updated version of Microsoft’s Arc Touch Mouse that uses Bluetooth technology and new updated Touch and Type Covers that have backlit keys. Each Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 includes 200GB of SkyDrive cloud storage.

Unfortunately, the Surface Dock and Surface Car Adapter and Surface Power Cover won’t go on sale until earlier next year.
