iPad Air Packs Hidden Feature You’ll Love

Apple didn’t say anything on stage but it appears that the iPad Air will be coming with changes to their batteries that will bring a fantastic hidden feature to those that invest in the company’s new, full-sized iPad.

Yesterday, at an event in San Francisco, Apple announced two brand new iPads in the form of the iPad mini 2 and the iPad Air. The iPad Air was originally known as the iPad 5 and it will be coming to replace the iPad 4 in Apple’s full-sized iPad lineup. The iPad mini 2 won’t push the iPad mini out but it and its $399 starting price tag will force the iPad mini to drop to $299.

The devices come with a number of improvements as well. The iPad 5’s design is a remarkable improvement over the iPad 4 as it offers a 7.5mm design that is far more compact and lightweight than last year’s model. It also comes with an A7 processor with 64-bit support, a new iSight camera for better photos and video and the same beautiful 9.7-inch Retina Display.

As for the iPad mini 2, it comes with a new 7.9-inch Retina Display, new A7 processor and iSight camera, and a design that is similar to the design found on last year’s iPad mini. At the event, Apple revealed that both of the devices will have the same battery life as their predecessors. Both are listed with batteries that can provide “10 hours of surfing the web on Wi‑Fi, watching video, or listening to music.” What Apple didn’t say was that the battery that it’s installing inside the iPad Air will also be bringing a key feature along with them.

According to the reliable iLounge, the iPad Air has a smaller 32.4-Watt-hours battery inside it, something that should translate into faster charging times. While iPads are notorious for their great battery life, they also tend to charge slow. With the change, iLounge claims that the iPad Air will charge in four hours as opposed to five or six. Thanks to processing and software optimizations, still keep that premium battery life, even with the smaller battery.

The iPad mini 2 is reportedly moving from a 16.3-Watt-hours battery to a 23.8-Watt-hours battery. Apple will apparently be loading it up with a 10 Watt battery charger to slim down charging times though it’s not clear if there will be the same drastic improvement.

Those looking for a faster charging iPad will be able to pick one up in just a few days. Apple’s new iPad Air will be out on shelves starting November 1st while the iPad mini with Retina Display will be hitting sometime in November, specific date unknown. Apple won’t be taking pre-orders for the iPad Air and it’s unlikely to take pre-orders for the iPad mini 2.
