Moto G Tipped as Budget Moto X Alternative

Earlier this week a Motorola trademark filing surfaced detailing a new device called the Moto G. At first there was some speculation that we could be seeing an upcoming Motorola Nexus, or other rumors pointing to a large device for Verizon Wireless, but today more details have cleared things up.

It’s being reported by Phone Arena that the Moto G will be the official name for the often-rumored Motorola DVX, which we’ve called a budget Moto X before. The Motorola DVX cleared the FCC back in September, and that’s the last we’ve heard of it, until now. Google and Motorola could be preparing to launch the new Moto G sometime soon, especially now that we’re seeing further evidence the device is real and clearing all the certifications needed.

According to previous DVX reports, the Moto DVX will sport a 4.5-inch AMOLED display, a dual-SIM card slot and Motorola’s new X8 computing system like the Moto X and DROID lineup. Then, most importantly, the Moto DVX is said to be priced between $195 and $245 total. Without a contract.

The device isn’t quite as fancy as the Moto X, but given the slightly smaller screen and low price point, it could be a huge hit for those on a budget, not to mention we’ve heard Google wants to offer something cheap for emerging markets. So while many were hoping for a 6.3-inch Moto Giant, or the Moto G to be a codename for the new Moto Nexus, it doesn’t appear to be so.

This all comes from what we’re hearing is an extremely reliable source from Motorola, but of course, we’ll have to wait and see. Motorola has yet to announce or confirm the DVX in any way, but we could be learning more on the handset soon enough. There’s also been talk of Republic Wireless offering the DVX, if and when Google finally makes it official.

The tipster ends by claiming we could see the new Moto G sometime before the end of the year, but has nothing more concrete thus far. Our next question is whether or not Google will offer this budget phone from the Play Store, or elsewhere.
