iPad Mini 2 Release Date Shortages Extremely Likely

Published

The iPad mini 2 release date is set for November when users can buy the new iPad mini with Retina Display from Apple and likely third-party retailers, but don’t expect that it will be easy to find.

From the predictions, you might have better luck finding a gold iPhone 5s than buying an iPad mini 2 on release day.

Apple announced the iPad mini 2 with Retina Display, which the company is simply calling the iPad mini with Retina Display at an event earlier this week, but has yet to announce an official release date. The iPad Air, which was also announced is coming on Friday November 1st.

It is possible that Apple is delaying the official iPad mini 2 release date announcement until the company is able to secure enough stock to meet some of the demand for the small tablet with a high-resolution display.

The iPad mini 2 release date is in November, and it will likely come with shortages.

The iPad mini 2 release date is in November, and it will likely come with shortages.

This delay leads IHS Director of Tablet Research, Rhoda Alexander, to predict that supply is the issue and that shoppers will likely have a hard time finding the tablet on store shelves. Alexander tells The Telegraph, “The supply of the Retina Mini is going to be ridiculously tight in the fourth quarter.”

This statement backs up multiple reports of iPad mini 2 production issues from analysts before the launch event. While the iPad Air is an impressive looking tablet, anecdotal evidence suggests many users had their eye on an iPad mini with Retina Display and are eager to upgrade to the better display as soon as possible.

Apple will not take pre-orders for the iPad Air, and it doesn’t look like there are plans for iPad mini 2 pre-orders either. Apple starts taking iPad Air orders online and in store on November 1st. Apple should announce the iPad mini 2 release date and orders in the next few weeks.

Additionally some shoppers who avoided the iPad mini last year are now looking at the tablet thanks to the higher resolution display. The iPad mini with Retina Display now features a 2048 x 1536 resolution, the same as the iPad Air, though in a smaller display size and a smaller overall package.

Assuming the analysts are correct users should plan to order as soon as Apple announces the iPad mini 2 release date if they want it in time for the holiday season. The iPad mini 2 supply issues may last until early 2014, according to the report.
