Published

on

iPad mini 2 pre-orders could start on Friday November 1st when the iPad Air goes on sale.

Rumors already point to iPad Air release day pickup options an in a report on 9to5Mac, Mark Gurman notes that unconfirmed chatter in Apple Retail points suggests Apple could start taking orders for the new iPad mini with Retina Display when orders for the iPad Air start.

This is not the focus of his report, so it’s not worth setting an alarm clock yet, but Gurman’s connections often share insider information ahead of any official Apple announcement.

The iPad Air orders should start at 12:01 AM Pacific / 3:01 AM Eastern on November 1st. If Apple plans to start iPad mini 2 pre-orders on Friday it would make sense to take them at the same time.

The iPad mini 2 gains a new Retina Display that users the same 2048 x 1536 resolution as the iPad Air. The iPad mini design remains unchanged, but a new Apple A7 processor is inside to deliver more power.

We expect the iPad mini 2 will be hard to find in retail stores and online orders could quickly skip the initial availability for delivery within a few days of release to week-long delays. Analysts predict that the iPad mini 2 supplies will be tight until 2014, which means users may have trouble finding an iPad mini 2 for a gift if they don’t order as soon as they are available.

In 2012 Apple took iPad 4 and iPad mini pre-orders at the same time, even for the iPad 4 and iPad mini LTE models which launched in mid-November.

The Apple Store is ready to handle iPad mini with Retina Display orders, but this new leak is unconfirmed.

Rebecca thats my problem too! I have chosen the pad mini retina 32gb insted of iPad air 16gb! They are exactly the same power and processor for the same price of £399! Thats all i can afford so it was a close call, but id rather more memory than big screen
