Verizon Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Update Release Imminent

Published

on

Samsung has posted the changelog for the Verizon Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, a sign that a roll out is imminent for owners, a sign that the Verizon Galaxy S4 will finally get support for Verizon’s version of the Samsung Galaxy Gear.

Last week, rumors suggested that the Verizon Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 update would roll out today. Today, Samsung revealed the update in a changelog on its website, saying that the update will be released today and that it will be coming with a number of changes for Verizon Galaxy S4 owners. Thus far, we haven’t seen any owners report the update as being live but given Samsung’s proclamation, we expect a release to be coming at some point today.

When the Verizon Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 update does arrive, it will be bringing a number of changes along with it including support for the Samsung Galaxy Gear, an accessory that Verizon sells for $299, Samsung Knox, support for band 4 LTE, and Group Play 2.5, a feature that is currently found on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

We imagine that the update will be rolling out Over-the-Air and that the roll out could be staggered. Verizon has, in the past, rolled out software in stages with some users getting the update on day one and others getting the software several days later. There is also a chance that Verizon could stage a massive roll out to all owners of the Galaxy S4, it’s not clear.

What is clear is that last week’s leak has the potential to be dead on and that means that owners of the Galaxy S4 on AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile could see their upgrades roll out on their rumored dates. The AT&T Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 update is scheduled to roll out on November 13th, the Sprint Galaxy S4 update on October 30th and T-Mobile Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 update on November 18th.

Those updates are expected to be followed by updates for the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2. The devices will be getting Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates across all five carriers as U.S. Cellular announced that it would be bringing Android 4.3 to the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 as well.

We’ve reached out to Verizon for details about the update and we’ll update when we hear back.
