Nexus 5 Sold Out on Google Play Store

Published

on

The Nexus 5 is now available on the Google Play Store but the device, like the Nexus 4 before it, has sold out immediately pushing shipping times into the month of November.

Just a short time ago, Google unveiled the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat update after weeks and weeks of rumors and speculation. Instead of offering buyers a few days to prepare, Google instead put the Nexus 5 up for sale immediately on the Google Play Store.

The device comes in white and black and in 16GB and 32GB of storage and already, we’re seeing heavy demand for the new Nexus.

Google’s Play Store earlier today listed the 16GB Nexus 5 in black as sold out, something that prevented buyers from picking one up. Now, the device is listed as shipping out of the warehouse in three to four weeks, putting the shipping times in the thick of November.

While other devices were initially available after the 16GB black Nexus 5 sold out, the white 16GB Nexus 5 is now listed as shipping out in three to four weeks, the white 32GB Nexus 5 is listed at three to four weeks, and the 32GB Nexus 5 in black is listed at three to four weeks.

While the Google Play Store has stayed up during the Nexus 5 launch, we have seen some glitches impact our experience. The first, a screen that took us to a blank “alternatives” page and prevented us from placing an order. Google’s website also failed to display the white Nexus 5 32GB for us, even after refreshing the page numerous times. These bugs are small compared to the ones that affected Nexus 4 buyers, but they are glitches nonetheless.

Those that have been able to place orders are set to receive their Nexus 5 next week with Google planning to ship out devices by November 5th. This means that devices should start landing on doorsteps next week.

Google’s Nexus 5 arrives after a tumultuous week of rumors and leaks that all pointed to today as the launch date and release date. The Nexus 5 is joined by the new Android 4.4 KitKat update that will bring several new features and be coming to Google’s Nexus 10, Nexus 7 and Nexus 4. The Nexus 5 joins the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Editions on the Play Store and it will be aimed at devices like the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, Apple’s latest iPhone models.

Rumors suggested that a LTE Nexus 4 would arrive with the Nexus 5 but thus far, we haven’t seen anything emerge. That doesn’t rule it out as a possibility, we’ve heard rumors of a launch later in November, but it does make them slimmer.

Don’t know if I’m the only one this happened to but when the sale went live I tried buying (initially) a 16GB Black using my Nexus 4. I was using Chrome as the browser and no matter how many times I tried refreshing I kept getting a blank page.

I opened up Firefox and pasted the link and I was able to purchase one right away (which I then cancelled and instead got the 32GB Black).
