HTC One X Android 4.4 KitKat Update Unlikely

Published

on

Yesterday, HTC confirmed ambitious Android 4.4 KitKat update plans for owners of its flagship HTC One. It also confirmed updates for the HTC One Max and HTC One mini. And while the news is good for some HTC users, the news is bad for others as the HTC One X Android 4.4 KitKat update, which has already been dismissed in the past, is once again under the spotlight.

After months and months of rumor and speculation, Google announced the Nexus 5 and the Android 4.4 KitKat update yesterday. The Nexus 5, with Android 4.4 KitKat on board, went on sale yesterday. The company did not, however, roll out Android 4.4 to older devices, saying that Nexus devices will get the update in the near future.

Surprisingly, several companies came out and confirmed their plans for Android 4.4 KitKat including HTC which promised an aggressive upgrade plan for HTC One owners in the United States. According to HTC, the HTC One will be updated across U.S. carriers within 90 days. That means, Android 4.4 KitKat should come by January 29th.

The company also confirmed Android 4.4 KitKat updates for the HTC One Max and HTC One mini though the company did not say when they would be getting their updates, only that the updates would follow the HTC One’s. HTC left out a lot of older devices and that means the users are unfortunately going to have to deal with rumors.

One rumor emerge yesterday about the HTC One X Android 4.4 KitKat update and it’s a rumor that we have unfortunately heard before. The HTC One X Android 4.4 KitKat update is in serious doubt thanks to comments from HTC leakster and developer LLabTooFeR and thanks to Google which killed off its own Galaxy Nexus Android 4.4 KitKat update due to it falling outside of an 18-month update window.

HTC hasn’t confirmed anything just yet but at this point, an HTC One X Android 4.4 KitKat roll out would be surprising to say the least and owners will want to start tempering their expectations. If it’s true, and it likely is, it means that HTC One X owners will have to rely on the development community for Android 4.4 KitKat features.

This nonsense annoys me. So what if it’s outside the 18 months, the phones are so similarly specc’d that it should be on the list. Once again, HTC release a near identical phone and screw legacy users. We have the same version of sense as the HTC one so it just seems they can’t be bothered. Funny thing is, I was contemplating upgrading to a one from a one x but now I might go elsewhere.

I have been with HTC since the original desire and had my one x for 18months and got 6 months left on my contract and its already out of date. My wife’s Samsung galaxy s2 has got a more up o date version of android than mine. I am stuck on 4.1.1 in the UK. I have always liked HTC phones but think its time to go with another make.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Apple. Need the new OS, you need to get a new phone. This was the original reason I went with Android.

It’s a shame. Only 18 monthes! How can we reduce fragmentation whith such practices? I own a one x+ which is one year old and I won’t get the latest android?
Apple supports its phone for 3 years (the iphone 4 which has been released since 2010 is still kept updated)
Why android phones makers cannot do the same?

Today is the day i will reconsider the HTC for an alternative phone.. always lacking in the updates. Very disappointed that the HTC One X will not be upgraded, yet more than adequate for the running the OS. Sorry HTC you just lost another customer in your already hard times.

HTC is no more a good company
It’s earning a bad name for itself if it’s not taking care of existing customers. What’s the fun of buying such expensive phones when we are getting same features in cheaper phones. Such a waste of money. RIP HTC One X and welcome I Phone

I wouldn’t mind not getting kit kat if I could at least get 4.3. That was released for the HTC one x+ but still waiting for at&t to roll it out with all their crap ware. I don’t think the problem lies equally with the makers and the phone companies.

not to mention that WiFi is useless in HTC One X after 4.2.2 update and they say nothing about it while people have been talking about since September. they won’t listen instead they gave people this BS everytime: “Please wipe the phone’s cache partition and try connecting again. For instructions, see “Troubleshooting Common Issues…” at (cont) https://bit.ly/1dmsDfs – link’s for another model, but steps are same. Contact CS at https://bitly.com/YklnZc if you’re (cont2) still having trouble with your Wi-Fi connection.”

I wouldn’t mind not getting the KitKat, just make the damn WiFi works again!

I believe that HTC is not doing great by not providing updates. check this https://www.techyclick.com/no-more-android-updates-for-one-x/ and you would be able to understand what happened wrong
