Nexus 5 Unboxing Video

The Nexus 5 was officially released late last week, and we ended getting our hands on the new device this morning by checking out the white version with 32GB of storage. This is Google’s latest flagship phone and it’s aptly named the Nexus 5 thanks to its 5-inch 1080p display gracefully covering the front of the device.

When you receive your Nexus 5 in the mail, it’ll come in a small box that’s just the right size for the phone itself to fit in (at least when you order from the Google Play store). Opening it up will reveal the Nexus 5 box in all its glory. It’s very similar to the new Nexus 7’s packaging, with the Nexus 5 laying on top of a field of bright blue.

Opening up the contents shouldn’t be a huge surprise for folks familiar with smartphone packaging. On top is the Nexus 5 wrapped in a heap of protective plastic and stickers, and below that are the various paperwork, placards, warranty information and manuals to get you started with your Nexus 5. Underneath that is the microUSB cable along with the USB wall adapter.

Booting up the Nexus 5 for the first time takes a while, and before you can even get to the homescreen, you have to download a day-one update, if you will, that takes about five minutes to download and another five or so minutes to install and initialize. After that, though, you go through a few more setup procedures that’s typical of most Android devices, and before you know it, you’re at the home screen.

As far as the exterior of the Nexus 5, you’ll find your basic ports and buttons; the power button is on the right side (along with the SIM card slot), with the volume rocker on the left side. The microUSB port is on the bottom, as is the speakers and microphone. On the top, you’ll find the headphone jack, and obviously the rear camera is in the top-left corner with the LED flash right below it.

We still have yet to spend some quality time with the device, but from what we’ve experienced so far, the display looks absolutely gorgeous, and the device fits really well in the hand, including smaller hands that might have a hard time holding larger devices. Despite the Nexus 5 having a 5-inch display, the bezels are extremely thin, allowing for a smaller device overall.
