Galaxy S3 & Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Updates: What You Need to Know

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates have been confirmed and detailed. In fact, the Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update just started rolling out to owners and should reach the United States soon. As anticipation mounts, we want to take a look at the most important things Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 users should know about the two updates.

After months and months of waiting, the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 are set to receive their biggest Android update in quite sometime, though, it won’t be the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update that many were expecting. Instead, the update is going to be Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, an update that will not only bring the features of Android 4.3 to Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 owners but also deliver some Samsung features including Galaxy Gear support, Samsung KNOX, features from the Galaxy S4 software and more.

December could bring the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 update release in some regions, with Galaxy Note 3 features.

Both updates are going to be big for Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 owners in the United States and elsewhere as Samsung looks to shore up its lineup ahead of the holiday shopping season. As expected, there is a ton of anticipation in regard to these two updates, not only because they bring new features, but because it has an extremely long time since these two devices received an Android upgrade.

While the Galaxy S3 received a Premium Suite update, the Galaxy Note 2 hasn’t received anything of significance since it arrived all the way back at the tail end of last year. So, for Galaxy Note 2 owners, this update will represent their biggest update to date.

In the past few days, we’ve seen a number of details emerge from the shadows and here, we take a look at the latest developments and relay the most important details that Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 need to know.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Update Rolling Out Slowly

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean roll out has begun and the software has landed for the international version of the device in Ireland, and specifically, the Vodafone version of the device. We anticipated a region in Europe being the first to the update and those suspicions were confirmed yesterday when the roll out landed.

We should see Samsung move swiftly to update other devices in and around Europe and Asia in the coming days and we expect Samsung to gradually build from the initial roll out. Today, we’ve seen another carrier confirm availability starting in mid-November with French carrier SFR confirming the software for the middle of this month.

So, while the update may not be widespread yet, it’s looking like a major push is going to begin in the near future as Samsung and its carriers work to outfit the device with new features and support for the Galaxy Gear accessory.

First Galaxy S3 Update in U.S. Should Roll Out Tomorrow

We expected the U.S. to be behind Europe in terms of Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update timing and that has played out exactly. Remember, the Galaxy S3 launched in Europe before the United States got access to it. That said, it looks like the U.S. won’t be far behind when it comes to the  Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update as the Sprint Galaxy S3 is thought to be getting its update tomorrow.

A leaked document indicated that tomorrow would be the day that the Sprint Galaxy S3 would get the update. We’ve seen the document accurately predict two updates for the Galaxy S4 and there is no reason, at this point, to believe that it will be wrong about tomorrow. Sprint hasn’t confirmed anything just yet but Sprint Galaxy S3 owners will want to be on the look out for a software update tomorrow afternoon. Sprint typically rolls out updates OTA and slowly so don’t expect to see the software roll out to everyone on day one.

The next Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update is likely going to be the AT&T Galaxy S3 update which is scheduled for November 13th. Verizon and T-Mobile should follow and as we’ve pointed out, we don’t expect U.S. Cellular to be too far behind the curve either as it, like the others, sells the Galaxy Gear and will want to get its devices updated as soon as possible.

First Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Update Should Be Close

While the Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update roll out has begun, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update roll out has yet to start and it’s not clear when or where Samsung will deploy the update. Given that the U.S. is expected to start getting it on November 20th, we imagine that we are, at the very most, a little less than two weeks away. And it could be even closer than that.

The Galaxy Note 2 made its debut in Korea so we wouldn’t be surprised to see the update land there first and then start spreading to other regions in the days and weeks after. Besides the leaked information for U.S. carriers, the only other information that we have is from Australian carrier Telstra which says that it expects to release the software on November 25th.

So, owners should expect a massive worldwide roll to take place during the last two weeks of November, a roll out that should be completed before the end of the year.

Avoid Leaked Updates

In the past few weeks, we’ve seen a number of leaked updates for the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, updates that provide owners a way to get Android 4.3 Jelly Bean early. At this point though, these leaks should be avoided. Why? Well, for one, because the updates are so close.

At this point, it makes no sense to install a piece of test firmware or a leaked update when the real, official software is so close. For those that aren’t skilled, the transition could cause some major headaches, headaches that would have been easy to deal with several weeks or months ago but not now. Not when these updates are close to touching down.

I am on the Sprint Network and based on the “Leaked” schedule it should be happening. You have lost a lot of credibility today!

I agree as this site among others on the web has been wrong on the S4-S3 rollout dates from Sprint!. No updates on leaked dates as of 10/30 for S4 also No update on the S3 “Neither one has the updates currently available ” their reliable information is poor at best and they’re just guessing also waiting like the rest of us”. (Totally useless)

If you would’ve chkd system update on ur phone at anytime in the last couple months, you’d have been able to update much sooner on the At&t S3 and that goes for their Note 2 phone as well, you not bothering to check is hardly the carriers fault imo

Sprint tech people are borderline retarded don’t listen to them. They don’t know anything.

        11/06/2013 at 6:41 pm

Retarded or not, the update is not available as of late as this site has suggested!. So we must wait for some credible information as this site is just trying to get email addresses to send you useless so-called leaked dates!. Wrong on both S4/S3 release dates. “JOKE”

No official 4.3 update for Ireland via Kies it’s a buggy test build – I have it on my S3 and it’s shocking – lagging, unresponsive, lockscreen failure, intermittent signal dropping, best off waiting for official release or custom firmware ftw

Pointless article. No update on sprint. I’m sick and tired of all this so called leaked information and Samsung’s lack of consideration for their current loyal customers. Seems like all they care about are new potential buyers. Not even thinking about Gear until the third gen. Get it together Samsung!!!

When is the update going to arrive for all phones because my brother got his today but mine won’t. And both of our companies are Sprint. And I’m in Florida.
