Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat Update Details Arrive

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update is said to now be in testing in preparation for its arrival at some point in the future, fantastic news for those who have bought into Samsung’s brand new 5.7-inch smartphone.

Last week, Google finally confirmed all of the Android 4.4 KitKat update details, revealing an incremental but important piece of software that will be rolling out to a number of phones in the future. The software is confirmed for Google’s Nexus devices including the Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and Nexus 4 and will be rolling out to phones like the HTC One, LG G2 and the Droid DNA.

Rumors have also suggested that it will eventually land on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Samsung Galaxy S3 though Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything just yet. Samsung has also not confirmed an Android 4.4 KitKat update for its Samsung Galaxy Note 3 but that doesn’t mean that it’s not coming. In fact, SamMobile claims that the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update has just entered testing ahead of its arrival.

The site provides no time frame for the update’s arrival and testing can often be a long process as Samsung works to get rid of the kinks. Still, this is a sign that Samsung is hard at work on the software and it should mean that the Galaxy Note 3 won’t suffer the same fate as the Galaxy Note 2.

The Galaxy Note 2 arrived with Android 4.1 on board, an update that was immediately trumped by Android 4.2. And while a Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.2 update was rumored for the summer, it never arrived. Now, Galaxy Note 2 owners are in the process of waiting for the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update to arrive, said to be sometime this month.

It’s not clear what will be on board the Galaxy Note 3 given that it already has current TouchWiz software. It could be that Samsung uses the software to not only deliver Android 4.4 KitKat features but also offer bug fixes and enhancements to the current software. Samsung typically doesn’t confirm release dates before they arrive so it could be that Galaxy Note 3 owners will be in the dark about a roll out date until the roll out date arrives.

Dale, With VZ any update appears to be unlikely to EVER happen. I definitely like the Nexus model, but Google stops updating at 2 years (I have a GNex), so that is frustrating as well. The moral to that story is buy the phone when it first comes out so you can have two full years of support.

Or root it and put a custom room of the latest version.

Google had intentions of upgrading the Galaxy Nexus to 4.4 but they backed out on the idea because the company that made the processor for that phone is no longer making processors for phone.. So they could not get the necessary updated code and support to maintain the phone.

The Nexus 5 is significantly inferior to the Note 3 and therefore, the Note 3 should be the first to get 4.4.

I hope the update fixes the landscape issue when docked on the Samsung smart dock?
