LG G Flex Video Highlights “Self Healing” Scratch Resistant Design

Since first being announced late last month the LG G Flex smartphone complete with a flexible design and curved 1080p HD display has been appearing more and more. Destined to take on the Samsung Galaxy Round LG’s Flex is being highlighted today in a neat video provided by LG.

It’s more than just a bent smartphone, which is essentially what Samsung is offering in the Galaxy Round. LG has added what they’re calling next-gen “self healing” technology and coating to the entire device, claiming it will be able to heal and hide scratches and scuffs. That isn’t all either, having a flexible design means the smartphone can handle its share of drops, and unfriendly pockets, and today we’re getting our first look from the video below.

The device is obviously curved from top to bottom, but apparently it can handle being completely bent back to straight without any ill effects. LG goes as far as to scratch it up, drop weights on it, and even have arms and people sit on the smartphone to show off just how durable it really is. Of course all phones can break, but the G Flex will be able to handle the elements better than most. At least that’s what LG wants us to think.

While the back is durable, as you can see below, the plastic flexible AMOLED display may not have as much luck, but we’ll have to wait for it to arrive before we give any final thoughts. LG doesn’t mention the screen being resistive to scratches like the back, so¬† take that as you will. Here’s the new scratch and durability test video for the G Flex by LG.

Impressive right? The G Flex is more than just a curved smartphone. It’s meant to be able to handle daily abuse more than most, and still sports top tier specs with a 1080p display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor. For those excited about potentially purchasing this device, we’ve recently learned the device has been confirmed for AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint here in the US, although release date details have yet to surface.

Verizon has worked closely with most LG devices in the past, and could still have a version of the G Flex, but for now nothing’s been confirmed. Get ready for this 5.9-inch curved smartphone to arrive soon.
