Verizon Moto G Confirmed for 2014

Published

This morning Google and Motorola took the wraps off the new Moto G smartphone. Designed to be a premium device for those on a budget, and for most emerging markets. While the initial announcement was exciting considering the device will run users $179 off contract, outright, we received more good news regarding when it will arrive in the US.

The Moto G is available starting today and all this week in Brazil and parts of Europe, but what about the US? The initial announcement stated US availability in early 2014, but now we’re hearing at least one carrier for sure will have it on its pre-paid lineup. Verizon confirmed in early Q1 of 2014 the Moto G will be available on prepaid lineups, which is the same time frame Motorola stated it would arrive for US customers.

The important aspect here with the new Moto G is the price and performance of the smartphone. Offering a near top end product for an extremely wallet-friendly price. The Moto G comes with a 4.5-inch 720p HD edge-to-edge display, a Qualcomm quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM, dual cameras and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean all for $179.

Users will get an 8GB smartphone for $179 with no contract, completely strings-free, or opt for a 16GB model for just $199. While the smartphone doesn’t offer 4G LTE speeds, the rest should make first time smartphone buyers or those on a budget extremely happy.

Above is the tweet by Verizon, confirming this premium handset will be available for prepaid customers in early 2014. Motorola also confirmed the device will be available completely unlocked on Motorola.com for those in the US, and other carriers will be releasing information soon but so far Verizon’s the only one making it known.

Bring just $179 off contract, it’ll be interesting to see how US carriers respond to the device, and if any will offer it free on a 2-year contract. We have a feeling T-Mobile and its recent “Uncarrier” plans will offer the device with monthly installments like any other device. A $10 a month Moto G from T-Mobile sounds like a great deal, but we’ll have to wait until next year to see it arrive.
