iOS 7.0.4 Problems Emerge for iPhone Users

Published

on

Last week, Apple released its latest iOS 7 update in iOS 7.0.4, an update that brought enhancements and fixes to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners. However, iOS 7.0.4 appears to have not only brought some issues of its own but it looks like there are issues from iOS 7.0.3 and below still lingering for those using Apple’s iPhone.

In October, Apple said that it would roll out a brand new iOS 7 update to fix at least two of the issues that iPhone and iPad users had been experiencing since the arrival of iOS 7, iOS 7.0.1 and iOS 7.0.2. And while the iOS 7.0.3 update did bring fixes for some of the issues plaguing device owners, it also brought some problems of its own, problems that we detailed extensively in the days after the software update’s release.

iPhone 5s deal

iPhone and iPad owners began campaigning for a new iOS 7 update to solve the issues found in iOS 7.0.3. Up until late last week, it wasn’t clear if or when Apple would release a new update. However, on Thursday, Apple released iOS 7.0.4, its fourth incremental update for iOS 7 and an update that promised at least one fix, a fix for dropped calls in FaceTime.

We took several looks at the iOS 7.0.4 update last week. And while our experience on the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 were quite good, iOS 7.0.4 problems have started to emerge, for iPhone users in particular.

Over the past few days, we’ve heard from several iPhone users who are evidently experiencing issues within iOS 7.0.4. Several owners have complained about battery drain issues, something that tends to happen every time an iOS update is released, however, we’ve heard about some other, more specific issues with iOS 7.0.4.

iphone-5s-5c 18

We’ve also heard from users who are now running into Wi-Fi issues on their device. Those Wi-Fi issues apparently didn’t exist when the device was using the iOS 7.0.3 update. Users say that they can’t access their network and that when they input their password, it still doesn’t work. This is an issue that we’ve heard about many times in the past and it appears that it is arriving for iPhone owners after installing iOS 7.0.4. iPhone users, specifically those with older iPhones, are complaining that the update is running sluggishly on their device.

We’re also experiencing issues with the iPhone 5s after the iOS 7.0.3 update. For weeks now, we’ve been seeing random reboots on the iPhone 5s. We’ve seen the problem on a T-Mobile iPhone 5s and a Verizon iPhone 5s and we know that other iPhone 5s owners are experiencing the same issue. And while we had hoped that iOS 7.0.4 would solve the problem, we’re still seeing random reboots.

iphone-5s-5c 46

This is an issue that plagued an iPhone 5 of ours all the way until the release of iOS 6.1 in January so it’s possible that a fix is still in the works. At the moment though, it appears to still be an issue for the iPhone 5s and its users.

Those looking for iOS 7.0.4 fixes from Apple likely won’t get any soon as the company typically takes several weeks to issue a brand new update. And even then, there is no guarantee that a fix will be on board.

The iOS 7.1 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is thought to be the next update for device users. And while it has shown up in server logs, a sign that Apple is testing the software, there is still no release date attached to the software.

As an iPad user, I am really looking forward for that iOS 7.1 update. I hope it will fix my problem with the folders not opening at the right position.

I tried everything, websites such as https://lock.li but nothing helped..

I just upgraded my 4s to ios-7-0-4, in addition to wifi not working I cant find my phone through iclouds,I cant use my password, because it doesnt work, the thing is that I am a student and I made one of my most huge mistakes in my life by getting iphone 4s, I coudnt pay fro 1 month to t-monile and although I paid them for 7 month the amount of (50 to 90 euro – depending on how much I talked on the phone) they decided to cancel the contact and they gave me a fine for the entire contact, so something like 1240 euro, i should pay them, regardless of how much I have already paid them, now with this new update I feel like I am getting screwed and I can not do anything about.
who would pay 1800(estimation) euro for a stupid iphone 4S??
I dont know what to do now.

Hi guys, I have a 4s that was in iOS 6 with no wifi and battery drain. I used the hair dryer solution which has worked but now sometimes my screen freezes so that you can’t unlock it, you have to turn it off to fix. I’ve also noticed that the battery sometimes drains massively and suspect it could be because the screen has frozen whilst on standby, has anyone else experienced similar and found a solution? I’m wondering if I should take it to my hairdressers for a wash and set? Lol

If your ability to write grammatically correct sentences reflects your ability to pay attention to fine details, then this explains a lot. Slow down before you pay, and show some patience instead of rushing through everything.

My problem is not being able to access my wifi settings this has happened on three seperate occasions, twice I have been able (after a lull of some three or four days) to retrieve it by doing a network reset but this time it will not have it, I rang my local EE store and quite frankly for all the help they gave I might just as well not have bothered, it was almost as if the guy was reading it from a cue card, I’m rapidly losing patience with Apple my contract was up on the 11th of June and I opted to go for sim only on a month to month scenario, I think that Apple would do well to realize that we do have a choice and I may well choose to excersise that sometime real soon.

I just upgraded my iPhone 4 to to 7.0.4 and visually its horrible and its not user friendly to navigate. I feel like an old person, everything is big, fat, and white background. Same here, with a 64gb 5. Draining at about 20% an hour before today. Visited the Genius Bar where they suggested a Restore from Backup. Did that yesterday with no luck. Went to the Apple store once again today where they did a Restore as New. The only personal info reloaded was my contacts through iCloud. It’s now dropped 45% in a little less than 2 hours. My phone is essentially unusable like this and I rely on it for my job in healthcare.

When I originally updated my iPhone 4S to ios 4.0.7 I also had wifi issues, but then looked up a solution on the internet. What worked for me was the following:
      – Go into Settings
      – Select General
      – Scroll down to bottom of screen & select Reset
      – From list, select Reset Network Settings

The phone will then reset all network settings as you had them before and wifi options should then return. It worked for me.

    Upgraded to 7.04.

Wifi sucks, fails to detect wifi. Sometimes zero wifi despite 4-5 wifi signal a/v. The range is shortened. It looks like the signal has to be very strong before it can detect or certain new router could work.

I hate apple, I have never like this

Since the upgrade to 7.0.4, I have been having very strange wifi problems. My wifi is so slow it’s almost non-existant. I cannot browse, download emails, or even have facetime calls anymore. I have to do everything over LTE. Prior to 7.0.4 I was getting 30+Mbps using wifi.

Just wonder if it would be better I upgrade it via cable instead of OTA?
Anybody with better outcome with cable download?

    • Steve LeVine

      11/19/2013 at 3:46 pm

That should not make a difference. Just make sure you’re connected to strong, reliable Wi-Fi with a charged battery on the phone if you do the OTA. I had no issue with the update downloading and installing on three devices. The excessive battery drain has happened after the OTA.

    • Brian Wendel

      11/19/2013 at 5:39 pm

if you ever plan on jailbreaking your device, always update through iTunes. For some reason the OTA method has an effect on the process

a lot of people are complaining about iOS 7 and the problems they are having with their device. Nobody made you update, furthermore anytime there is a complete redesign of a iOS expect issues. My wife still has not updated from iOS6. She did what a lot of people should do, google the issues with the updates. Once they fix the problems then update. Folks are to eager to update because its new and shiny. Its not apples fault, where all beta testers, every cell company does it.

    • Steve LeVine

      11/19/2013 at 6:06 pm

iOS 7 was not a problem, nor the other updates. It seems 7.0.4 has affected the battery consumption. There are always problems. Windows XP has been around how long and still has issues.

      • Brian Wendel

        11/19/2013 at 6:20 pm

true, battery drain has been a issue. I have never experienced it on any iOS version though. With the introduction of iOS7 came more features. Dynamic wallpapers, parallax, animated weather etc. Yes those features are cool, but they eat juice. Plus it doesn’t help that people are always playing on there phones. Different people use there phone differently, batteries drain, now its apples fault?

        • Steve LeVine

          11/19/2013 at 9:02 pm

Brian- you misunderstand. 7.0.4 is causing excessive battery drain when the phone is just sitting, no apps launched, most features disabled, Wi-Fi and BT disabled, LTE disabled and strong 4G signal.

          • Mike

            11/23/2013 at 11:33 am

Hi there, I´m experiencing excessive battery drain as well since I updated from 7.0.3 to 7.0.4 on my iPhone 5S 64GB. For me it helped switching off “Frequent Locations” (Settings/Privacy/Location Services/System Services/Frequent Locations).

I work off shore so I turn airplane mode on. My battery used to last for over a week using my 4s for an alarm clock on my last hitch. Since I downloaded this new so called UPGRADE, my battery only last about 14-15 hours even though I am in airplane mode. I took my phone off charge and went to my hunting stand when I was home last time and tried to text my wife 2 hours later and the battery was dead. Never did this before the so called UPGRADE… I am very confused. Any fixes???

  25. Mike

    11/19/2013 at 6:20 pm

Brian, that has to be the dumbest reply to date.

If you have a 4s, the battery and no more wifi happened right after the install of ios7

    • Brian

      11/19/2013 at 6:30 pm

Your entitled to think that, But dumb are the people that updated with known issues. iPhone5 7.0.3 only problem I have had is random reboot twice since update. I can live with that.

      • Mike

        11/19/2013 at 7:09 pm

        Well, it seems you updated…D’oh!

      • Mike

        11/19/2013 at 7:20 pm

Also, with the 4s, even after a restore to new/factory settings (erase all content and settings) ….nothing on it, the wifi still doesn’t work and the battery drain (not even touching the phone) drains in less than 8 hours. So no, it’s not the use of the phone killing the battery, it’s the burnt out wifi chip sucking up the battery. I thought you would know this since you did your research before you updated your ios. Only dumb people upgrade with known issues and not researching it, right?

IOS 7.04 on iPad screwed up emails accounts. Cannot send or receive Yahoo or SMTP accounts. Apple is making a good argument for an Android or Microsoft phone. I am nearly done with shitty apple updates that break more than they fix.

After upgrading iPad 2 to IOS 7.0.4 I can not connect to my WiFi network at work any more, because the WiFi network is not detected. In fact, there are many different WiFi networks available at my work location, but my iPad 2 detects none after the upgrade. At the same time I also upgraded my iPhone 4S and iPad Air, but this problem occured only on iPad 2 after the upgrade. Other devices normaly detect other networks and connect to them. Then I have other situation at my home. With iPad 2 I can see, and I can still connect to my 2 home WiFi networks, but I can not see any other WiFi networks that my naighbours have, which I could see before. These other networks are still seen by my other iDevices. I have tried to reset network settings but it didn’t help. I guess it is not a hardware failure, since I am still able to connect to my 2 home networks, but also these two networks are detected slowly and connection gets randomly dropped. Not satisfied with IOS 7 at all. Hope Apple will do something about it and do it fast!

As a iphone 4s user, I have a problem with the wifi also. It was working, then it just cut out, it then froze on the wifi connection button, and is now temperamental. I tried to do the thing with reset my network, which worked for a while. I called apple yesterday after i tried to reinstall everything. I was told to set it all up as a ‘new’ phone, wiping everything. I did, and guess what, i have now lost all my photos etc and still hasnt fixed the problem!

I think my battery drain on iphone 4s 7.0.4 is because all of my cellular data is turned on (Settings – Cellular – scroll to bottom of screen) for each individual app. When I go and turn them each off, as soon as I go out of Settings they are turned back on. I cannot turn them off unless I turn ALL of cellular data off with the toggle at the top of the screen. This is due to the 7.0.4 upgrade. Restored phone, restored backup, same issues. Apple support sounded surprised but there is other mention of this cellular data issue in the Apple support forums…

After updating to 7.0.4 on both my iPad (4gen) and iPhone 4S), Battery life has gone down tremendously. My calls are being dropped (“call failed”) I’d say 3 out of 5 times. I have Verizon, update my roaming capabilities regularly, and live in a very populated city in Florida. Both devices lag like a mid 2000’s dell desktop computer. Not to mention, the entire layout and icons make me feel like I’ve gone back in time 10 years. I would give anything to have ios6 back.

Yesterday I updated my iPad 2 to ios 7.0.4. Now the backspace / delete key works very slowly. When pressed it takes a couple of seconds to erase a single character and a lot of time to erase a complete word. This is very annoying and frustrating since I am using iPad at work all the time.

I have a 5, and I have not yet upgraded to 7, and I won’t until 7.1 at least. My problem is, you can’t find apps for 6 now!! I know they want to support 7 with new apps but come on, let us have the old ones while we wait. So, they FORCE you to be an unpaid beta-tester, by taking all the 6-supported apps away from iTunes. Sucks!

iPhone 4 user who just “upgraded” to ios 7.0.4. Wifi is extremely unreliable now (have never had a problem in my 3+ years of owning this phone) and have tried all the so-called fixes (resetting settings, etc.). This is disgusting, and I won’t even attempt talking to the smug Apple store employees, as I know they will just tell me to buy a new phone I don’t need.

I have had the issues mentioned above in small increments to where they weren’t very noticeable after reading all the comments I notice them more, what my real problem is with is the iMessage ceasing to work and the volume in apps not working unless there are headphones plugged in and even then it’s iffy. It’s not an issue with my speakers because when I get texts phonecalls or an alarm goes off it works just fine. I have tried the factory restore and nothing has been fixed. Any tips or tricks or insights would be much appreciated. I have an iPhone 4S if that makes any difference

we are going thru the same thing. after spending hours at the Apple store we still have gotten nowhere. we are told that the phone needs to be replaced. it was replaced 7 months after we purchased it due to software issues and now not even a year later more software issues. Reps from Apple are telling us that because the phone is out of its original warranty there is nothing they can do about it.

well my issue is that i just updated my iphone 4s to the ios 7.0.4 a few days ago.. now my iphone wont update or download apps. like my apps start to download. then the time clock in the center of the app just dissapears. and underneath the app it just either says installing or waiting.

I am very disappointed with my Iphone 5c. I went from an Iphone 3 to a 5c. First there was no that much improvement at all. I hate that my husband Galaxy S4 can do more than my iphone. I always have been an iphone user, I believe that I support the U.S. economy by buying iphone but I am beyond frustrated. I disliked the new icons plus I just did the update and I am having problems. The iphone won’t hold charge or it drains quickly (in an hour). I hope all these issues get fixed soon, if not apple will be losing another customer to android….

Like the other comments I installed iOS 7.04 on my iPhone 5s and now it won’t connect to my home wifi saying password incorrect but it is correct. Went to Apple store and no employees were aware of the issues and because I could connect to their wifi they told me I needed to reboot my router as it wasn’t an Apple issue. Waste of time! How long until a new version or a fix as I need wifi?!

The best thing to try is to click on Forget This Network in WiFi settings on the phone for your home network and then add it back from scratch.

iPhone 5 great – no problems, only crashing settings.app sometimes
iPhone 5S terrible – crashing sometimes apps, battery drain up to 10%/h

Both setup same way as an update. 5S now set up two times, one time without any update or backup restore. Nothing helps: Apple said yesterday – all is looking normal. I’m using it too often they said in diagnostic tests…. Used it for 3 photos, one short time web, together 10 minutes usage….

Apple said, everything is ok at my hardware and they don’t know if I can change to 7.1beta. They didn’t do anything to help me-

Since the death of steve jobs, i think apple has lost respect to its customers, the company’s reputation is declying. Their software and their updates are not to the standard as used to be. Many complains from iphone and ipad users on the latest ios 7 updates, as it is not being accomplished properly, instable and with many problems, like it is being laggy and slow, with heavy battery drainage plus other well known problems, and it caused a big disaster to old iphones user like iphone 4 and 4s and even iphone 5, many customers prefared not to buy any more iphones in future and instead they plan to get a bettter phone operated by the compatitive i.e. android, where they can be flexible in selecting software updates !!!

    11/26/2013 at 12:26 pm

After reading all above comments on the latest ios 7 updates. I think Apple should either allow all users to downgrade to ios 6 as to be satisfied with apple product or else pay a refund to them for their usless and hopeless iphone 4 and 4s and even iphone 5, becuse most of the users have not long ago purchased these phones and now they can not use them as what they meant to be used !!!

I have an iPhone 4s that is a little over a year old. It worked fine until the first iOS update. And then it seemed like my phone was going much slower and the battery draining really fast. When the next update came, I hoped that was going to fix the problem, but it didn’t. The phone freezes, when I try to add a contact. Loading any app takes a long time and closing apps doesn’t work like it did before when you could hit the start button twice and all the apps would show up on the bottom of the screen and you could close out of all of them. There is no way to do that now. My honey also has an iPhone 4s and he didn’t do any of the updates and his phone works great. Apple did this intentionally so that people would upgrade and get new phones, there was a big article in the NY Times about it and how they knew what it would do to older phones, but that they expected people to be so frustrated that they would update to iPhone 5. Shame on you Apple….Steve Jobs must be rolling over in his grave knowing what you are doing. He would never have let this happen.

Regretting updating ipad4 to 7.0.4.. Wont connect to wifi from 10 metres away although it can find the connection with 4 bars.. iphone5 running 7.0.3 sitting next to ipad has no such issues..

I have had no end of problems with my iphone 5 , battery drain very quick , not charging , home button not working , microphone not working , phone not letting me hang up on a call unless I switch the phone off , phone switching itself off randomly and unable to switch it back on unless I plug the charger into it and then I unplug straight away and it says I have full battery . Spoke to apple and they have said that all these issues were due to the iOS software updates and that they needed me to plug my phone into the computer so they could remotely run a diagnostic , I did this and guess what ! The technician said he needed to clean up my computer before he could perform the diagnostic test , so I said ok do it then ! Ok he said I can go ahead and do it right now for £229 !!! Do you think I am stupid !!! Needless to say the conversation came to an abrupt end . I have since had a PC technician to come and look at my computer and he said it was in great order and my anti virus software was wirking great and that there was no reason he couldn’t have done what he wanted to do !!! Simple answer is do not buy an iPhone , just overpriced crap !!! Evry person I know has said they would never go back to the iPhone after all the problems they have had , don’t waste ur money !!!!

I sorted out my wifi problem; turned the iPhone 5s off then on again. It then accepted my wifi password and connected ok :-) Certainly won’t be updating its iOS version again without researching reviews!

headline : Apple. shoots itself with io7 upgrade, unbelievable bad user experience sends half their custom to android’ my main issue is writing posts like this , the time lag is ridiculous ,im finished three words before the first is on screen , how on earth can they offe such an awfull user experience! its like windows vista , a disaster for the company and users . i hate it because its hugely annoying , most other visual changes are also worse than io6 .

I own iPad 3 (very first version, it seems it’s iPad 2 w/ Retina) & everything worked fine w/ 7.0.3 upgrade. After upgrading to 7.0.4 microphone suddenly stopped working, not only built-in one, but also an external micro I used to connect via the iPad holder. Don’t know if it’s a software or hardware issue though. When I connect a headset (Sony Ericsson phone accessory) it records sound through it… Seems pretty weird to me =/ Annoys me a lot because the primary use of my iPad was to record my singing & now I can’t sing through the plugged-in micro? Well, I’m screwed in this way I guess >x<!

Is this Dejavu? I seem to recall all of these symptoms being experienced, also occured with every other Iphone model predecessor, with their subsequent IOS updates. Apple have never got the update process right, especially in respect to battery drain.

my iphone 5 is shit right now, my battery drains like hell, 1 procent per minute, and my wi fi is really low and doesnt work. everything happend after the update. Sometimes or very often my phone closes by itself when i have 40 procent and says that my battery is empty, when i charge it gets up to 40% and i can take it of and use my phone normal, do i really have to carrie a charger where ever i am ? really bad apple, i was loyal and now i maybe going to your competiors samsung, i hope u can fix the battery life time, and note, i always close the apps, and everything is closed, have nothing on, the light is at the lowest and everything is closed, but my battery drains like before.

I have to agree with all of you with this stupid iOS 7.0.4 update! It’s BS! I did my update on my iPad mini b/c I had issues with my FaceTime. I’m not so upset about my battery life b/c it was shitty since I bought it. BUT for my daughters iPad, it’s KILLING her battery! VERY UPSET b/c her iPad had a better battery life. ITS A WASTE! DON’T UPDATE! The techs are very nice but they don’t know what they’re saying.
