Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Update Complaints Pile Up

Complaints about the Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update continue to pile up, even after Samsung decided to pull the plug on the update in the United Kingdom. Samsung’s social media accounts are being bombarded by users with issues though the company remains coy about a time frame for fixes and when Galaxy S3 users might see the Android 4.3 update roll out again.

Last week, we reported on a number of issues that were impacting Samsung Galaxy S3 users in the United Kingdom after the start of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update roll out. We heard from Vodafone Ireland users who were dealing with an assortment of issues, issue that also struck those that installed the software on the international variant, a device that got the update a few days later.

The complaints from Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update users grew louder and louder until yesterday, when Samsung publicly announced that it had pulled the Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update in the United Kingdom and that it would be investigating the issues that users have been dealing with since the software first rolled out.

That announcement hasn’t stopped the complaints from rolling in. In fact, the announcement may only worked to increase the frustration of owners who are currently dealing with an assortment of issues.

Samsung’s social media accounts are currently being flooded with complaints from tons of Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean users. Users are all over the UK are writing in, detailing their issues with the software and getting a generic response in return. And while we’ve seen buggy updates and complaints before, these complaints are on a massive scale, a sign that things are seriously wrong with this update.

In the beginning, the complaints started off small, with users complaining about lag and battery life issues. However now, most users are claiming that their device is simply unusable. Some users are so fed up that they are threatening to boycott future Samsung products.

For its part, Samsung is asking users for patience as it takes a look into these issues. It also says that it will update users on the situation as soon as it possibly can. Thus far though, the company hasn’t been very forthcoming with information and thus, Galaxy S3 users in the UK will have to deal with a device that is virtually unusable for the foreseeable future.

While Samsung hasn’t announced anything, it’s clear that issues have also impacted the United States. The first sign of trouble appeared when the Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 updates for AT&T and Sprint missed their presumed roll out dates. We’ve also see AT&T pull the Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update due to issues and we also saw the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 update miss its release date yesterday for unknown reasons.

Still, that hasn’t stopped Samsung from rolling out the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, a roll out process that started today in India and in Nordic countries.

The Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update is important as it brings Galaxy Gear support to users of the older Galaxy S smartphones, the Galaxy Gear a device that is likely going to be a focal point for Samsung and carriers during the holiday shopping season. However, at this point, users who do see the update will want to remain cautious when the update arrives.

Don’t go out of your way for 4.3… it’s not any kind of huge deal. It adds a few minor features and some “under the hood” optimizations, but frankly… my 4.1.2 SIII does 99% of what my 4.3 Nexus 7 tablet does.

The “under the hood” optimisations give a noticeable speed boost to my S3. Granted, I still have a bit of wake lag and battery life is rubbish, but when Samsung fix these obvious bugs people will love this update. Scrolling is now super-smooth, even on Power Saving mode.

One thing: Wii controllers no longer work on this update, so if that is important to you then don’t update!

Don’t upgrade….it kills my battery within a few hours. I’m lucky enough to have a job that allows me to plug up my phone throughout the day but I shouldn’t have to fully charge my phone 3 times a day! I called at&t and they couldn’t help me but they transfered me to samsung. They are aware of the problem but don’t know when the new update will come out to correct the battery life issues. They pulled the update, but somehow people are still getting it. I wish I wouldn’t have….this sucks!

My upgrade was ok, phone seems a little slower than usual and I keep getting notifications that I have completed downloads of files I already deleted, other than that, it’s not that big of a deal!

updated my s3. wont play audio via Ford Sync. customer support tells me that with new updates they add features and remove some features. So no more music for you.
    Unbelievable!

I am a tmobile user I just got my update yesterday in my phone is really slow battery only last a few hours instead of all day like before 4.3 sucks I would not recommend it to anybody I will talk to the company tonight if they don’t fix it by the end of the month I would definitely go with another carrier with a different phone .

OH my god. What really stresses me out the most is the mobile data button that was on the top but now after the update it is no where to be found. EXCEPT all the way deep in the settings. I for one do not have unlimited data so if I need to use it for a little bit I only forgot to turn it off once in awhile because since I use that top bar thing whatever the hell its called quite frequently I would only forget it on for a little while. But now its deep in the settings and I dont go to that part of settings every dang day. DO YOU SEE MY PROBLEM?!?! Its really annoying. Does anyone know where I can get this noticed?

Are we back in communist Russia? I didn’t want the update, but it kept prompting me, so eventually I allowed it. All of my phone settings were screwed up including my ring tones. Two weeks later, I’m still trying to re-establish my setting to where they were before the update. The 4.3 update had hardly any improvements and a lot of aggravation from my point of view. Samsung and Google /Android better be careful…the backlash hasn’t been pretty. My current contract ends in a few short months…

  9. Jim says

I hate the 4.3 update. Everything is sluggish, the flash still goes off everytime someone calls me, apps close suddenly, all my settings were screwed up, ring tones had to be reset, I even lost some numbers and pics. Even fb has trouble with this update. It used to load my whole wall, now I am lucky to just get a few posts that I can see or even one that I can post on. Otherwise the phone just freezes up and does nothing but show the loading circle. Yes, I am mad as hell at AT&T and Samsung for pushing this crap off on us. If this keeps up, I may be forced to go back to a BlackBerry!
