T-Mobile Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Update Now Available

Published

on

Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update roll outs are being halted in other parts of the world but that hasn’t stopped the T-Mobile Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update from rolling out today as the carrier has confirmed the roll out for arrival saying that the optional upgrade is now available both OTA and through Samsung Kies.

Several weeks ago, a leaked update schedule emerged for Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 owners in the United States. While the schedule has been dead on about several updates, the schedule suggested that the AT&T and Sprint Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 updates would roll out in early November, something that didn’t happen, and something that left other release dates up in the air.

The schedule pegged the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE roll out for November 25th though it did not say when the regular old HSPA+ version of the T-Mobile Galaxy S3 would get the update. As it turns out, today is the day for owners of the original Galaxy S3 on T-Mobile as the carrier has announced the roll out today on its website.

T-Mobile says that the update is an optional update for Galaxy S3 owners and that the software is now available Over-the-Air, users simply need to check in the settings, or through Samsung Kies for those that prefer to update by plugging into a computer and using Samsung’s software. The update is about 480MB in size which means that it will take some time to download and install both OTA and through Kies.

The carrier says that the software will not only deliver Samsung KNOX but Galaxy Gear support as well. It doesn’t suggest that the software has anything else on board but we expect there to be enhancements and bug fixes.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 can run S Voice from the Galaxy S4 with S Voice Drive.

What’s unclear at this point is whether there are any bugs on board. Samsung recently pulled the Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update in the United Kingdom due to severe issues impacting the performance of the device. If T-Mobile is rolling it out, we imagine that the carrier is comfortable with the performance that it saw during testing.

This is the first Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 roll out in the United States though it certainly won’t be the last. AT&T, Sprint, U.S. Cellular and Verizon will all be rolling out the update at one point or another, it’s just not clear when those roll outs will take place. T-Mobile’s Galaxy S3 roll out is a good sign though it doesn’t mean the other updates are imminent.

T-Mobile says that the Galaxy S3 LTE will get the update soon and it looks like its November 25th release date might hold up though that remains unconfirmed at this point.

Yeah, why are they completely ignoring the S4? I have been waiting patiently for this? How disappointing.

Yes. It is true. I hope they are working through the night, otherwise they’ll know what its like to be on the other end of this… Wondering when the EBIT (External Breach and Infiltration Team) will allow THEM to release an update!
