Finding a PS4 in Stock Will be Easy According to Sony
If you want to find a PS4 in stock right you’re in for some disappointment, but Sony say’s that won’t be the case for long and plans for a “sufficient supply” of the new PlayStation through the 2013 holiday season.
The PS4 release date arrived less than a week ago, and Sony already sold over 1 million units. This week the Xbox One release date lands and the competition to earn a spot on gamer’s entertainment stands goes full force. While there are enough differences and specifics in the PS4 vs Xbox One debate to keep most users from buying whatever console is in stock, Sony wants to make sure its cheaper PlayStation 4 is available in stores.
In an interview with Game Informer Andrew House, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO assured gamers that it should be relatively easy to find a PS4 in stock at a local retailer.
“We are ensuring that we have the broadest reach to ensure that people are satisfied, especially when they’ve been loyal to brand for so long. On the other hand, we’re not engendering frustration by having a shortage of supply. I think through the holiday season that we’ll be in good supply. The sales target that I announced for the company is five million units sold by the end of our fiscal year. March 31, 2014”
So far the PlayStation 4 is not easy to find at local stores though some online deals are popping up for a short amount of time. While Sony wants to make sure gamers can buy the PS4 this year, House wants to avoid a, “perception problem.”
What is this perception problem? Well, to put it bluntly Sony may have a lot of consoles available or in the pipeline, but they want to avoid PS4 consoles sitting on store shelves which creates the perception that the console is not popular enough to sell out. It’s shy of holding back stock to force a sellout, which based on the demand we are seeing on reselling websites is still there, but frustrating for gamers who want to walk into a local store and buy a PS4.
There are a collection of stores running PS4 Black Friday deals, where the deal is not a discount, but rather having a PS4 in stock on a specific day.
The PS4 is available now, if you can find one in stock, for $399. The Xbox One release date arrives Friday and comes with a $499 price.
