Google Newsstand App Delivers Magazines and News to Android

Google has unveiled a brand new app and service this morning, called Google Newsstand, which is aimed at replacing a few applications and merging reading content into one app. Delivering news and reading content right to our Android smartphones and tablets.

At the moment Google offers an app called Currents, as well as Google Play Magazines, both which deliver different types of reading material. However the Newsstand app will be a do-it-all reader for Android moving forward. Offering magazines, news, and content from your previous Currents subscriptions. And of course, there’s a nifty search button to add new content whenever you’d like.

Use that search button and make sure to add GottaBeMobile to your news feed and subscription for the latest mobile news, as well as any other content users are interested in. Google’s made sure to separate news and magazine subscriptions and reading into two separate categories from the menu button on the top left, or simply head to “Read Now” to get a blend of everything.

The My Magazines will transfer over any previous magazine reading or subscriptions tied to your Google account, as will the My News section of the application, as well as an option to head into previously bookmarked content for reading later.

Last but not least is a new Explore option, which will allow users to select from a wide array of sections to find relevant content and news you may be interested in. Everything from mobile news, sports, politics and more. This is Google’s new all-in-one solution to news and magazine content, taking on Flipboard and many others. So far the app is pretty great, but Currents is still pre-installed on many devices and can’t be removed, but we’re expecting Currents and Magazines to die off eventually.
