Walmart’s Biggest Black Friday 2013 Deal: 70″ HDTV for $998

Published

on

Walmart is selling a 70″ Vizio HDTV for just $998 on Black Friday after a $700 discount. This Black Friday deal isn’t very mobile, but it’s a killer deal if you’re in the market for a gigantic HDTV. It’s also Walmart’s biggest Black Friday deal in terms of dollars off.

The HDTV Walmart is advertising everywhere from its Black Friday flyers and on nationally televised football games is the Vizio E701i-A3E. Walmart doesn’t normally carry this television in stores or via Walmart.com, but other retailers such as Amazon.com do. As of today, Amazon.com is selling the  Vizio E701i-A3E for the same $1,698 price that Walmart cites as the full retail price. That’s important to note since some Black Friday ads base discounts off of manufacturer’s suggested retail prices rather than what stores are selling items for immediately before Thanksgiving.

Walmart’s Black Friday Special: 70″ Vizio HDTV for $998

This 70″ HDTV can play back video at full 1080p and has a refresh rate of 120Hz. Those who watch a lot of fast-action sports may want to hold out for a TV with a faster refresh rate. Higher-end HDTVs, including many Samsung models, have refresh rates of 240Hz. Most TV shows and movies will look just fine at 120Hz however.  It has four HDMI inputs and a suite of apps to watch videos from Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and other services.

The 70″ Vizio HDTV is absolutely huge compared to what most people have in their living rooms. While it may sound only a little bigger than smaller HDTVs, it’s much larger when you consider the displays’ areas rather than diagonal measurement. The area of  the 70″ display is actually 36% greater than a 60″ HDTV’s and a whopping 62% greater than a 55″ HDTV’s area.

This 70″ HDTV is part of Vizio’s E series of HDTVs, which range in size from 24″ to 70″. Amazon.com customers have written more than 2,200 reviews of this series of HDTVs and have given them an average of 4.1 out of 5 stars.  One reviewer of the 70″ version called it the best TV he’d ever owned and went on to write:

…she feels like she’s in a movie theather when watching the new Vizio. Personally I am impressed aslo by the picture quality and the apps and how well sorted most of the user interfaces of the apps are.

As with all fantastic Black Friday deals, there is a catch. Walmart isn’t including this HDTV in its guaranteed in stock promo on Black Friday. That means only a handful of shoppers will likely be able to purchase this HDTV at each Walmart location. Walmart stores will have lines for this and other doorbuster deals. Each store will hand out reservation wristbands so customers can shop while they wait for the sale to kick off at 8pm on Thanksgiving. This scheme is an attempt to cut down on the pushing and shoving that’s become commonplace at Walmart stores in recent years on Black Friday.

Wal-Mart Black Friday add for Vizo 70″ TV for $998 dollars.

On line you say I must visit the store to check availability.

I went to two Wal-Mart’s today and basically they will not know if they will have any to sell at this price until black Friday. The same in store TV has a different part number.

Both of the sales people said if they got one to sell at this price it would be a surprise. They both felt that it is a way to get you into the store to buy something else.

I emailed Wal-Mart and received a suggestion to purchase the full priced TV.

same here. I got to the store at 602 pm and I saw the area for the vizo 70 inch.there was NO people waiting so I asked where I needed to wait or be for when the tv sells. they told me they release wrist bands 2 hours befor the sale… I said its barely 2 hours befor the 8pm sale (605pm) and they said they only had 3 tvs in their store and they sold out befor 605pm on their 8pm sale. suck BS! I drove an hour and a half out of my town just to go get only that tv. Not happy with walmarts scam to get people in their store. They should list “only 2-3 in stock” in their add.

I got to my Walmart at 500; I wanted until 600. I received my wristband and was told to get to the store between 8 and 10. I show up around 930 and was told they accidently sold my TV as a “hour” guarantee product. I was given a raincheck and told they would let me know when they received new ones. I didn’t wait outside; didn’t wait long in line, and I don’t need a TV. I guess this is why I didnt make a big fuss; if I would’ve camped out or waied outside it would have been a different story.

only had 4 in Maui walmart. best tv hands down. 70in led hdtv for under a $1000? you cant beat that deal. everyone who says its a bad tv or bad deal are the people who got there just a little to late to get their wristband for this tv. its amazing, i got my xbox one and ps4 hooked up to it. The 50in led emerson hdtv for $288 was a great deal too. picked me up one too. walmart had at least 150-200 in stock. But only four 70in vizio hdtv. I was real lucky to get the second one. When the 4k tv finally hit mainstream next year. i wont be surprised to see 70in led 1080p drop to around $600. Costco will be the first to start selling at that price.

its not rocket science people. walmart loses money selling a 70in that low, thats why they have less than 5 to sale per store. They count on people to come late and not get that deal, so then they spend more money on buying other things cause they are there already. if you looked on the internet how the 8pm sale worked for the 70in vizio you would have got one. it didnt have the 1 hour in stock garentee. so common sense would tell you if you really wanted one you should come early. dont expect to come at 8pm or an hour early and get the deal. i got to my walmart and waited from 300pm till 8pm to get the 70in vizio. A 5 hour wait was well worth it to save that much money on a 70in led tv. Now im about to enjoy my sunday watching nfl games in hd on a 70in led hdtv..awww rite

The Wal-Mart Black Friday saga for a Vizio 70″ TV for $998 dollars goes on.
We did not stand in line a few hours before the store opened but got there an hour after opening. The Irvine police had a van and four policemen at the front door to add to the two security people. This is a super Wal-Mart. We went to the TV department to check on the Black Friday add for Vizio 70″ TV for $998 dollars. There were four other couples asking about the same add. I cornered the same person I spoke with on Monday. He checked his handheld computer and said they had none and I asked how many 70″ Vizio TV they got in to sell at this store he checked and said none but they had received three 60″ for the sale and did sell them. The did have dozens of no name 55″ to sell at special prices.
My wife called Wal-Mart corporate line and after a 20 minutes wait got someone who said the sale was up to the store manager. He gave her the manager name and phone number which she called. He was not in on Friday but we got one of the managers and she said if they could only sell what corporate sent them. She called the regional manager and was told they did send the Vizio 70″ TV and they were all sold. I am thinking BS and that Wal-Marts heavily advertized highly discounted will not be available at your local store so do not bother trying its just a way to get you into the store.

3 were available a the store in Patterson, CA and 4 at the store in Tracy, CA. I got to the store in Patterson at 12:30pm and was the third person in line! They gave us wristbands at 6pm and we had to purchase the tv between 8 and 10pm. None of us who got there early, the #1 guy got there at 7:30am, were at all confused about the add or how things were going to work because we had all been pestering the store manager and corporate for the past month and we took the time to be informed.

At 5pm a bunch of people showed up and got in line as well. The second person in line was the best friend of the person at walmart who was in charge of inventory and knew for a fact how many tvs were at each store in their district. We told the people in line and they said that they would take their chances. I don’t blame them, I would have probably done the same. At 5:30pm a manager came to our line and made an announcement to the effect that “I’m sorry but we only have 3 TV’s, you are welcome to wait but this is NOT one of the TV’s that are a 1hr in stock item, so unless one of these three people change their minds then they are all sold”.

No one left, everyone waited. Then they came around and gave out wristbands. Some very ghetto woman tried to claim that she was inline and was promptly asked to leave by everyone. However almost everyone who did not get a wristband went immediately through the stages of grief starting with denial.

I couldn’t leave the store for fear of not being able to get back in so the three of us pretty much just hung out in the same area till 8pm when they would cut off our wristbands and give us our “pull tickets”. During that time we must have had about 50 people who showed up and got totally po’d. Top complaints?

    – The add said 1hr guarantee, this is false advertising!
    – This isn’t supposed to go on sale till 8pm, how come they gave out bands at 6pm, this is false advertising!
    – What do you mean no rainchecks, that is false advertising!
    – But I drove x minutes to get here, this is false advertising!

In all their arguments translated into… I didn’t fully read the add, only read the parts I want and drove x miles to buy the single biggest item during a black friday sale that everyone and their grandmother knows that people camp out for but I got I didn’t give up my day like those losers who sat in line did and now I’m pissed that I didn’t get that thing I wanted but put no effort into and so I’m going to blame walmart for my lameness.

I have never stood in line for this long before and have almost always thought it universally idiotic. But to save this much money on something I was intending to buy anyway, made it worth the time vs money argument to me. So I read the add in specific detail and then took the time to personally corner the manager of the store adn several key employees to find out how this whole shindig would work. And it came off exactly as they said it would.

The add clearly stated what was guaranteed for one our and this was not labeled as such. They also said that only one was guaranteed per store, just because you wanted more then that does not make Walmart the bad guy because you didn’t put in the effort needed to get one. I was not the guy who got there at 7am because I slept in. I got there after lunch and I was fully prepared to find a line of 100 or more people who had been there since the night before. I got lucky in that I only waited 8 hours. The sale price made this a savings of $700 under list. That’s almost $100 an hour to sit in a lawn chair and read a good book on my day off.

Other then the guy who said that his store got zero tv’s none of these people have anyone else to blame about not getting a tv then themselves. They made a choice, it was up to them. Walmart did not lie or deceive. Heck that one guy did get a rain check didn’t he?

This country is becoming a country of children who can’t held responsible for their own choices. Walmart told you that they would only have one, anything more then that was a bonus. They did not release the tv’s until 8pm but if you only have 2 or 3 in stock and you have 50 people in line it’s kind of stupid to make everyone stand in line until 8pm or is that how you wanted to find out?

Some people need to grow up. There is plenty of BS our there that needs to be changed, but complaining that you didnt’ get your toy because you were to lazy to read the whole add just to save a lousy $700???

    #worldstinniestviolin

And yes, this does look epic in my living room.

I live in the middle of nowhere, drove 45 mins to our local Walmart, arrived at 5:25 and my mom got in line for the 70″ Vizio…she was 3rd in line….at 6pm she got her wristband….they sold 10 of them in our little town…we picked up our new jumbotron at 8pm and came home…..Walmart did exactly what they said….they however did not tell that they were going to pass out the armbands at 6pm…..but round here people don’t camp out….a few years back when the WII’s were the big black Friday event my parents went 3 days after the sale and our Walmart still had 8 in-stock for black Friday prices….guess it pays to live close to the New York line in a little sleepy town….
