HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat Update Roll Out Continues

Published

on

The HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update release continues as the HTC One Developer Edition and the unlocked version of the HTC One, have both started receiving the Android 4.4 KitKat update today, just a few days after the HTC One Google Edition received its update.

Shortly after Google announced the Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade back in October, HTC confirmed an ambitious plan for its flagship HTC One smartphone. In addition to confirming updates for several variants, the company also confirmed specific release windows for the HTC One, something that came as a bit of a surprise.

HTC said that the HTC One Google Play Edition would see a release within 15 days, that the HTC One Developer Edition would get the software within 30 days and that the regular old HTC One would get the update, in the United States, by the end of January. Earlier this month, we saw HTC push the HTC One Google Play Edition Android 4.4 KitKat update to Google. A release came a short time later.

Now, it’s the HTC One Developer Edition’s turn as HTC USA has confirmed that it, and the unlocked version of the HTC One, are now receiving the Android 4.4 KitKat update in the United States. The company claims that the roll out will start today though it did not offer any other details. Typically, roll outs span over a few days at least and can often take a week or more to finish. That said, not all HTC One users with an unlocked or Developer Edition will see Android 4.4 KitKat emerge today.

The roll out comes within HTC’s proposed 30 day release window which means that the regular HTC One has a good chance of getting its upgrade within its proposed release window. We’ve heard that the update might come before Christmas, which would be a bit of a surprise, but that would likely only happen for users outside of the U.S. HTC reaffirmed its intention to release the HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update in the United States in late January.

HTC One owners in the United States will also get the new Sense 5.5 along with Android 4.4 KitKat, something that will bring enhancements to HTC BlinkFeed and HTC Zoe. Sense 5.5 is already available on HTC One variants in other parts of the world.

Verizon’s HTC One remains on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean though HTC says that it will be getting the software in the second week of December, meaning, it won’t skip Android 4.3. The release of Android 4.4 KitKat will be unaffected, says HTC.

for some reason, even though I have got an unlocked phone, I still dont see any updates coming to my phone. Am I supposed to do it manually or I should just wait for it in the update section in my phone?
