Top iPhone 5s Problems and How to Fix Them

Published

on

There are a number of iPhone 5s problems that prevent users from the best iPhone experience, and we want to share some tips on how to fix these iPhone 5s issues.

The list of iPhone 5s problems comes from FixYa which sourced the complaints from 30 million users to come up with a list of complaints for the iPhone 5s and other top smartphones.

Fixya offers community troubleshooting for all types of tech related problems, allowing the company to see into the iPhone 5s problems that users are asking for help with. With millions of users asking questions about the iPhone the service has an incredible amount of data about what the biggest iPhone 5s problems are, perhaps the best insight outside of Apple.

Here are the top iPhone 5s problems according to Fixya.

Here are the top iPhone 5s problems according to Fixya.

Many of these complaints mirror the same iOS 7 problems we see from users after major and minor software updates. Apple is already working on iOS 7.1, which could arrive in the coming months.

iPhone 5s Battery Life

These complaints are not new, and anyone who owns a smartphone will be familiar with the number 1 iPhone 5s problem. According to Fixya, Battery problems are the biggest issue for iPhone 5s owners.

Read: Get Better iPhone 5s Battery Life

The biggest iPhone 5s battery life problems are from apps that use location services and apps that are power hungry, according to the Fixya reports. It’s tough to get around the location services issue for map apps and others that legitimately need your location, but iOS 7 allows users to limit access to location information in the settings for other apps.

Go to Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services and then turn off access on a per app basis for any apps you don’t want to use your location. This may help with battery life.

The iPhone 5s and IOS 7 should manage background apps well enough that those running in the back don’t greatly impact battery life, but earlier this year the Facebook iPhone app was blamed for bad battery life. If battery life drops dramatically after updating an app or installing a new app you may want to remove it from the iPhone to see if that fixes things or at the very least close the app. Again, if the apps and iOS 7 are both working right closing apps you aren’t using shouldn’t impact battery life, but you try this by double tapping the home button then swiping up on an app to close it.

iOS 7 App Crashes

Another top iPhone 5s problem according to the report is related to app crashes on the iPhone. Part of this may be due to apps not getting updates for iOS 7 and another part could be the iPhone crashing and taking an app with it.

There is no quick fix here, but there are three things to try which may mitigate the issue.

  1. Update your iPhone 5s to the latest version of iOS 7
  2. Update your apps to the newest versions
  3. Restart your iPhone regularly

These won’t fix all problems, but should help you avoid some crashes. Hopefully the iOS 7.1 release will bring better performance and app updates will offer fixes in the meantime.

Other iPhone 5s Problems & Complaints

The second biggest iPhone 5s problem according to Fixya user requests stems from the Touch ID fingerprint sensor in the new iPhone.  Rather than complaints that the sensor doesn’t work, most users were concerned about their privacy. Apple says the fingerprint data, not the actual fingerprint, stays on the iPhone processor and none of this info is uploaded to iCloud or Apple servers.

The first iPhone 5s ad showcases Touch ID.

If you have issues with Touch ID recognizing your fingerprints you may need to setup the service again by going to Settings -> General -> Touch ID & Passcode and following the setup instructions.

15% of the iPhone 5s problems are users complaining about the iPhone 5s display. Some of these are dealing with the screen freezing, which is more than likely related to apps or iOS 7, but some are addressing the size. The iPhone 5s uses a 4-inch display, while the competition is offering 4.5 to 6.3-inch displays.

There are rumors the iPhone 6 will arrive in 2014 with a larger display, possibly a 4.8 to 5-inch display depending on the rumor. Multiple rumors suggest Apple is experimenting with different screen sizes.

I have no idea how they say iPhone 5s is the most wanted and seller if this is the worst glitchy phone out there?? I think it’s just the ohhh look I have a iPhone?? Than they return the over priced thing back, I admit I did try the 5s I was always android and STILL ANDROID!!! But I gave it a try with apple, it was so bad I returned it the same day I got it!! So I haven’t a clue why idiots like it? Funny thing too wen I went to apple store that day to return it there were a lot of others doing the same!! So I think apple should recount the best seller amout?? They brag about how many they sell but do they say how many returned??? NOPE!!! Gee how many will be returned after Christmas??

I just bought my first iPhone and I am regretting it. The only thing holding me back from getting a Samsung is that I don’t know how to back up my contacts and other info from an android phone, in case of an emergency or something, like I do to the iCloud with iPhone. I’m not very tech savvy, so any advice that you can give me would be appreciated
      Thanx

And must I add one more, does apple have the following ?? A 1260×1080 pixal or a water resistance and dust resistance and a 2 gb ram and a memory card slot and a 20.7 mp cam? And much more like my sony experia Z1 just like t mobiles Sony Xperia z under water video capture?? And apple say the fastest iPhone yet haaa it’s still lagging on a 1 gb ram!!! For the last 3years so where’s the speed?? Androids are 2 gb ram plus, apples lagged 1160×680 pixels and tiny so called bigger 4 inch screen? No extended memory? Gee apples $$$ greed and cost for junk!!

There is something more important than specs. All you said just relies on specs.
iPhone 5s has 1gb of RAM , but it beats every other phone in benchmark tests . It has a lower resolution because it has a smaller screen , so 326 ppi is sufficient. Bigger android phones have more RAM Because the OS isn’t optimised on every android phone so somtimes it really needs more memory , and they have higher resolutions because they have bigger screens so that they can keep the same high pixel density. I am not an apple fan , I have a Galaxy note 2 , but I am thinking to trade it with an iphone 5s . Btw why would anyone need to take underwater pictures?

Under water video are just a cool feature to have, I do travel and ocean reefs underwater pics n videos are nice to take and having a phone instead of a bulky camera is nice apple ip 5s is such a lousy device I gave it a TRY and was not for me it’s way to small and slow safari is so 1980’s anyways

I don’t see how it beats all other phones on benchmark tests??? Wen all you hear are complaints and proof of it so I have no idea where you got that?? Did apple pay you to say this lol?? It seems like your a apple fanboy?? I hope not, you seem to smart for that to go to apple

Well , that is rude . Just go to youtube and find all these iPhone 5s vs another smartphone comparison , and you’ll see that it will have a higher benchmark score. If you don’t like safari , you can download chrome or any other web browser. When I bought the note 2 back in 2012 , I really hated apple because of this shitty iPhone 5 with absolutely no new feature , the thick and heavy iPad 4 , and the low resolution iPad mini. But now everything has changed , iPhone 5s got a 64-bit processor (which I doubt will work well with only 1GB of RAM) and the fingerprint sensor . The touch ID is something very usefull for me because I didn’t put a password on my note 2 because I find it frustrating to write the password ( or the pin ) every time I unlock the device. And If I want a big screen , I can use my iPad 2.

LOL what the shit? An Apple fanboy?? You’re clearly a pretty opinionated Android fanboy, so who are you to talk shit? People are allowed their own opinion. I just traded my Galaxy S3 for a 5S and personally I have found good and bad to both. But I’m not about to go online and act like a total psycho about it. Get a life.

Sorry didn’t mean to be rude, that’s the thing you have to download stuff to make iPhone perform well that’s my point also jail breaks, as android you know that we don’t need jb for that.. By the time you download your memory in iPhone is used up and no mini card slot to add?? If your phone dies like apples does you loose everything not a mini sd card, also iPhone restores you loose stuff too all don’t get backed up on I tunes!! Android you do a wipe a all clear you stuff can be ALL transferred to a mini sd card and you have a choice or delete phone and card or just phone or just pop out the ad card! On a android my sony Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z has that option apple fails on that, i did a speed test on both sony and apple on t mobile and apple was slower by far, it’s all choice I guess, I admit we both have great says in posts and knowledge I respect you on that too

    • Chad

      12/05/2013 at 10:14 am

You are right for the sd card. Since I bought a 16 Gb memory card , and my phone is always full , but with android you are( or I am) too lazy to delete unnecessary files since what you’ll do is just add a higher capacity memory card , and you can’t install apps on it . And for the backup , when I backed up my note 2 with kies before restoring , I thought that it would back up my apps , and accounts, but all what it did is backing up my photos and contacts , and all my other data was gone . In the other hand , when my iPad was stolen , I bought one the same day ( I knew that it won’t return) , I just restored it from a backup with itunes and everything was recovered, even my wallpaper was on the background.

I guess there is good and bad in both iOS and android lol sure wish they had a phone with best of both lol but that’s what competing is all about apple vs android lol than people argue over it lol lol it’s like Iraq and the USA who’s best lol

In the most unexpected sequel of events, post my iPhone 5s purchase on 1st February 2014 on an exchange offer on my working iPhone 4. Device went to dead state post an air travel early 8th February 2014. the authorized service center which attended to it indicated that the water triggers were red and also there was a sketch mark inside. since sketch mark amounts to tampering, I am not eligible for exchange offer either. When further questioned they said there was no indication of tampering.

Now I am in the dark, having been supplied with a QC failed device with a sketch mark which it should not bear. To keep up the honor and pride of apple, it will only be fair on part of Apple to replace the device, bearing the fact that the sketch mark (Number 732) is an exception on a device’s inside and Apple takes responsibility to understand the feeling of its customer and also having questioned his integrity during the process on tampering. I hope positive response from Apple Inc in this connection

when updating ur phone never press any button on ur phone or play around …. let it be in peace while updating
secondly reset ur phones .. it helps delete problems and avoid restoring ur old data totally …like only restore what u need (contacts ) ..and use it brand new again …
give a soft reset to ur phones … it avoids hanging problems ….

I need help! The reception on my iPhone 5s keeps on vanishing and the word ‘searching’ shows up instead. This makes it impossible to make calls. Initially I could fix it by switching the phone off and on again. But that doesn’t fix the problem anymore. Is anybody experiencing the same problem with their phone?

The phone was new and I hadn´t set that particular mode on, so very strange, I admit I did wonder why there was a Little moon icon on the top right hand corner though ( duhh silly me) Checking wont hurt.. good luck!

Jim you can get new charger from Apple store for free as long as the phone is still under 1year. It’s not advisable to buy chargers outside, it’s 15 quid for the charger directly from Apple. I bought more than 5 chargers outside, it almost wrecked my phone until I went to Apple store and got the charger free cos my phone was 11 months old then. I hope this helps

Most people don’t know you can a free charger from Apple if the phone is still under a year.
