Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update Hitting More Devices

Published

on

Google’s Android 4.4.2 KitKat update has started rolling out to owners of the company’s brand new LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition The company’s brand new Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is also hitting the HTC One Google Play Edition and should land for owners of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition in the near future.

Earlier this week, Google started rolling out the Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates for its Nexus devices including the Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 4, and the Nexus 10. The update brings an improved camera feature set to Nexus 5 owners and it also delivers bug fixes to owners of Google’s other Nexus devices. It replaces Android 4.4.1 KitKat as the most current version of Google’s software.

Today, the update is rolling out to two more Google-backed devices including the new LG G Pad 8.3, the new 8-inch slate that arrived earlier this week alongside the Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition and the HTC One Google Play Edition, a device that launched earlier in the year. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition should be getting the update today, and if not, soon.

The updates are being rolled out by Google which means that users can expect a slow roll out process. Google typically takes a week or so to complete the upgrade process as it rolls updates out in stages. These devices are likely far less adopted than the Nexus devices which means that there is a chance that the roll out could be shorter. When the update is available, it will prompt users to install it.

We also imagine that the files will be made available so that users who know how to use the Android SDK and ‘adb sideload’ command can manually install the updates ahead of the OTA process.

All three updates should bring some necessary fixes to the Android 4.4 KitKat update that originally resided on all three of these devices. Change logs for these two phones and tablet will likely remain unavailable which means that users will have to discover fixes and enhancements themselves.
