Chicago Geek Bar Gets Funded on Kickstarter Spring Opening Planned

Published

Chicago likes to boast about a lot of things, especially its large array of bars and eateries. Lately it’s boasting bout its geek and tech culture. But where do geeks hang out? To this point there hasn’t been a geek hangout. But it looks like the Windy City will soon have its own Geek Bar. Called simply Geek Bar, the establishment met and exceeded its KickStarter Goal raising $44,538. The original campaign goal was $9,750. More importantly it has found a location and is aiming for a Spring 2014 opening. The project is headed up by David Zoltan and parent company Cantina Forward.

Geek Bar promises to cater to geek and gaming culture with its environment and its food and drink. Movie nights with movies geeks like to see, such as Dr. Who will be on the menu. Special tables are being built for groups of geeks to socialize together and play games. The food menu is being planned to be game playing friendly so that you can eat with one hand and play with another.

The location will be in the trendy Lincoln park neighborhood at 1960 N. Clybourn Ave. The building features 10,000 square feet spread over two stories. The two floors will allow for special events on one floor while casual Geek Bar goers can still be on the other floor. Cortland says that an original March opening will now probably be moved to April since finding the location took longer than they had originally planned.

This news is getting a lot of play in Chicago as this is the first geek-themed bar to open in the city, so it will be interesting to see and gauge interest after the initial rush that will come with much publicity surrounding the opening. I’ll be looking forward to checking it out and reporting back for all of our Chicago GBM readers.
