Get iOS 7 on Older Devices with a Jailbreak Tweak

Published

on

Whited00r has been the go-to jailbreak tweak that users have been taking advantage of for the last few years, allowing them to install newer versions of iOS on their older iOS devices that no longer officially support it, as long as the device is jailbroken first.

According to the latest report from Apple, 78% of all iOS devices are now officially running iOS 7, but a small percentage of that is made up of older iOS devices that cannot update to iOS 7. However, Whited00r now comes with iOS 7 support, and users can now install the new version on older iOS devices.

According to the Whited00r website, the tweak is only compatible with the iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G and the first- and second-generation iPod Touch. iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch third- and fourth-gen support isn’t listed, which is a bit odd, but we’d be surprised if the tweak didn’t work on these devices. Then again, there might be some specific aspects of these few devices that make it impossible for Whited00r to work properly.

iOS 7 on older devices

Granted, this tweak isn’t necessarily an official build of iOS 7 — it’s merely just a theme that looks like iOS 7 — but it comes with all of the bells and whistles that you’d want from the latest version, including the new Notification Center, the new multitasking tray and Control Center.

The Whited00r website has everything you need to get started with your unofficial iOS 7 installation and the process works on both Mac and Windows, but be aware that you do this at your own risk, and if you brick your device in the middle of the process, we (or a handful of other people, for that matter) won’t be able to help you much.

If you have a newer iOS device that’s officially running iOS 7, a jailbreak was just recently released that finally allows iOS 7 devices to roam free. It got off to a rather bad start, though, and didn’t include an official build of Cydia, but the Evasi0n dev team is making strides to fix issues and make things right for iOS jailbreak enthusiasts. If you’re wanting to jailbreak your iOS 7 device, we have a handy guide that you can follow.
