Pebble Steel Smart Watch Adds Metal Band, Gorilla Glass Display

The Pebble Steel is a new smart watch from the makers of one of the most popular and affordable smart watches that upgrades the band and the finish of the device for a smart watch that looks impressive.

Gone are the plastic band and the plastic screen that was prone to scratches and in their place are a steel band and a Gorilla Glass covered display.

This grown up Pebble Steel retails for $249 which is $100 more than the Pebble  available at Amazon and Best Buy for the past year.

The new Pebble Steel is available in a shiny brushed steel finish and in matte black. The bezel of the new Pebble Steel matches the color of the band, but the new watch will offer options to change out metal and leather Pebble watch bands. Each watch includes a steel an a leather band.

The Pebble Steel is thinner and lighter and includes a RGB indicator that initially will show charging status, but Pebble is exploring new uses.

The new Pebble Steel is waterproof and will offer 5-7 days of battery life as well as the iPhone and Android connectivity that existing Pebble users enjoy.

The Pebble Steel is only available on the Pebble web store with a price of $249 and a release date of January 28th.

Also coming in 2014 is the Pebble App Store with Pebble smart watch optimized apps in one spot for Pebble users to browse and install. Apps in the store will come from Yelp, FourSquare, Go Pro and others.

In addition to the new Pebble Steel, CEO Eric Migicovsky announced that Pebble there are over 300,000 Pebble smart watches on wrists as the company looks to carve out market share in the face of new smart watches, smart bands and other wearables coming at CES 2014 and throughout the year.

    This is the quality I have been waiting for (but not the price!).

    I’ll wait to see what the app store looks like and maybe a price reduction when Amazon or BestBuy stock it.
