New Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update Spotted on Nexus 5

Published

on

A new Android 4.4.2 KitKat update, build KJT49K to be exact, has been spotted lurking inside the Chromium bug tracker on board Google’s flagship smartphone, the Nexus 5.

In December, Google pushed out Android 4.4.2 KitKat, its latest and greatest Android 4.4 KitKat update, and an update that has since spread not only to Nexus devices but to Google Play Edition devices and smartphones like the Moto G. It will also be the software that arrives on board the HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update later this month.

As we have pointed out , there are still some major Android 4.4.2 problems lurking about for Nexus users in particular. Nexus 5, Nexus 4, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 owners have been complaining about a myriad of issues since early December, hoping for an Android 4.4.3 KitKat update to alleviate the issues.

Google typically does not announce updates ahead of time so it’s impossible to say what’s next, an Android 4.4.3 KitKat update or otherwise, but we do have sighting of a new Android 4.4.2 KitKat update build today, a sign that Google could quite possibly be hard at work on a new update for Nexus users.

Myce has discovered a new Android 4.4.2 KitKat update hiding in the Chromium bug tracker. The update, build KJT49K, is evidently running on a Nexus 5, the current Nexus smartphone. Currently, the Nexus 5 is running Android 4.4.2 but with build KOT49H. Thanks to the build name, there is speculation that this build was started in November though that is far from concrete.

The contents of this new build are unknown which means that Nexus users who are dealing with issues are no closer to a brand new bug fix update for their devices. The update has not been spotted for Google’s other Nexus devices including the Nexus 7, Nexus 4 and Nexus 10.

Historically, Google has announced a new Android update at the mid-year along with a new Nexus tablet so there is certainly plenty of time for the company to roll out another update to tackle Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems. It’s just not clear if it will be this new KJT49K build, something else entirely, or, perhaps, nothing at all.

Major problems? Really? Like what? It’s not overpriced Apple gear?
What a horrible fanboy post. Where did you study journalism… University of Cupertino?

There are no “major problems” with Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Just because the author wants there to be issues doesn’t mean that there are. KitKat is the most powerful and flexible mobile operating system ever developed. Smooth as butter and crash free.

Bummer… I had no issues setting mine up in my car’s mav system.
Would you label this a “major problem” with the O.S.?
