AT&T Galaxy S4 Active Android 4.3 Update Finally Lands

Published

on

The update to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for the Samsung Galaxy S4 arrived back in October for most, and since then the company has been paying most of its attention to the Galaxy S3 and Note 2 to deliver the same update.

While AT&T and Samsung have yet to confirm the update or news, we’re seeing reports of the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 Active also getting Android 4.3 Jelly Bean today, which is a great sign considering it was left out during the initial S4 update timeline. Many owners were concerned about the update being delayed, along with the Galaxy Note 2 update delay, but it looks like AT&T is finally pushing it out to all users this week.

AT&T actually posted then removed the Galaxy S4 Active 4.3 update changelog last week, which details nearly everything users can expect, and now today we’re seeing the same update finally rolling out. It looks like they had a few days worth of delays, and this afternoon multiple reports are coming in (including users not on AT&T) that the Galaxy S4 Active Android 4.3 update is hitting today.

According to the changelog a WiFi connection is required to download the massive 721MB file, otherwise it could take a while, and Active users can expect plenty of new features and bloatware. For one this enables Galaxy Gear support. You’ll also enjoy a bunch of new preloaded apps like Kindle, Lookout security, City ID and more, which could explain the large file size.

Drag and drop to uninstall apps from the app drawer has been integrated, and plenty other features Samsung Galaxy S4 owners have been enjoying for months. Again this can only be done over a WiFi connection, and possibly with Samsung Kies, as a data connection won’t work according to the AT&T page detailed at the link above.

Users can expect Android 4.3 Jelly Bean to hit the Active this week, or head into settings > about phone > check of updates to get it now if it’s available. Don’t forget to check out our Galaxy S4 Active Review.

I’ve found the 4.3 update has caused problems with my phone signal strength. In my home where I get 4 bars on ATT generally, has randomly begun dropping to No bars, and then comes back to 4 bars randomly, while i’m not moving. I dropped calls last night for the first time ever. The only difference is the 4.3 update…

      Anyone else having issues?

Disappointed that the “S4 Active” 4.3 update excluded ANT+ wireless capability to fitness sensors like Heart Rate Monitors(HRM), foot-pods, etc.which was included in the standard S4 4.3 update. I bought this phone not to swim with it but rather so I can take it with me to hike, run, kayak, etc and have a built-in added protection from an active outdoor lifestyle (sweat, rain, etc.) and sadly a clueless Samsung exec decides that their “Active customer demographics” do not have any need for fitness functionality that ANT+ provides. FAIL. Whoever made that absurd decision is clueless on the customers that the “S4 Active” caters to.

I agree. BIIIG FAIL by samsung, that they make phone for active people and it does not support sensors for it.
