The popular cloud storage service Box is bringing back its offer of 50GB of storage for free when new users download and install the updated iOS app that was released today.
The Box iOS app updated today with lots of new features and an refreshed design. The app now sports faster photo loading, full text search within documents and support for a ton of new file formats (well over 100).
If you’re not familiar with Box, it’s a cloud storage service that’s similar to Dropbox, Google Drive and all those other cloud storage solutions, except Box is very generous with the amount of space that it gives away for free. Box syncs your files across devices and it also can do pretty decent collaboration between different users.
Perhaps the best thing about this deal is the storage space doesn’t expire after a certain amount of time. Box says that you’ll 50GB for free for life. Of course, though, you have to be a new user in order to take advantage of this deal, since you won’t get 50GB more if you took advantage of a past 50GB offer.
Android users don’t need to worry, though, as Box will more than likely bring this deal over to you guys once the Android app gets the major update. As for you iOS users, be sure to check which version you’re downloading before you download the app, since the updated version might still be rolling out to the iTunes App Store. You’ll want version 3.0, so make sure that’s what you’re getting.
Box may seem a bit desperate with such an offer, but it’s certainly a great way to get people to use your service if getting 50GB for free is the hook. It’s definitely not as popular as Dropbox yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Box kept working on its software to offer even better features than the competition. We’re looking forward to what 2014 has to offer as far as cloud storage goes.
