Is a Galaxy S4-Inspired Windows Phone Coming From Samsung

Samsung is about to launch a larger Windows Phone device for the U.S. market and now we know a little more information thanks to documents submitted to the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) for certification. The Samsung SM-W750 is said to be a Windows Phone device with a 5-inch display and a resolution of 1080 X 1920 pixels.

The 5-inch display and resolution reported by Phone Arena would mean that the device would share similar display specs to the Galaxy S4.

The resolution itself would make the Samsung-made Windows Phone competitive with recent releases from Nokia, including the Nokia Lumia 1520 for AT&T with a larger 6-inch display and a smaller 5-inch Lumia 1320 internationally. The device would be the first Samsung high-end device to launch since the ATIV S internationally and the ATIV S Neo on both AT&T Mobility and Sprint in the U.S. Given that the SM-W750V is a Windows Phone device, it would be branded under the ATIV umbrella once released.

The device will also launch with LTE connectivity, though at this time it’s unclear what networks the smartphone will debut on. In the U.S., AT&T Mobility has been the carrier to support Microsoft’s mobile OS in the biggest way with multiple Windows Phone models offered in its stores and on its network.

It would also be interesting to see what processor the device would run on. For some time, Windows Phone had largely been limited to a dual-core Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm, but the Lumia 1520 from Nokia ushered in an era of quad-core processor. In order for the SM-W750V to be competitive with the Lumia flagship and to be competitive against Android offerings–even the Galaxy S4 and Note 3 from Samsung–the device must have quad-core processing power.

At this time, it’s unclear when the device would debut. One potential would be at Mobile World Congress next month.

The design of the phone is still not known, though Samsung could likely base the SM-W750V’s aesthetics based on its recent Android releases, including the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3. In the past, the ATIV S was based on the design of the Galaxy S3, so the SM-W750V could find inspiration from existing Galaxy Android devices in Samsung’s lineup.

Is a Galaxy S4-Inspired Windows Phone Coming From Samsung?

Probably… but the problem is Samsung will release the Galaxy S5 this year. Making this phone, just like the Ativ S, a year behind its Android counterpart from Samsung.

I won’t even consider a Samsung until it shows some parity between it’s WP & Android devices. Right now, Nokia is the only innovator, but I’m interested in what Sony will do.
