Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat Update Spreads
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update continues to spread as the company has now reportedly seeded the KitKat update to the Exynos-powered version of the Galaxy Note 3, also known as the SM-N900.
Last week, Samsung started to push out the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade. The update came as a bit of a surprise as Samsung did not announce any Android 4.4 KitKat updates or any release dates prior to the start of the roll out. Galaxy S devices also tend to take precedent when it comes to timing of release.
The update first landed for owners of the Snapdragon 800 version of the Galaxy Note 3 in Poland. Samsung historically has rolled out its updates very slowly with unbranded devices getting the update first before the software lands for carrier-branded devices in regions around the world.
Today, the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update has reportedly spread. SamMobile, a site that tracks these updates, claims that the SM-N900, the Exynos-version of the Galaxy Note 3, has received its Android 4.4 KitKat update today, making it the second variant of the Galaxy Note 3 to receive Android 4.4 KitKat.
It appears that the update is available in Russia at the moment but nowhere else. Again, Samsung usually takes its time rolling these updates out which means that other regions could be waiting several days or even weeks for their Android 4.4 KitKat update to arrive.
The update is the same update, feature-wise, that rolled out last week. It’s incremental, meaning it doesn’t bring a massive design overhaul or hundreds of new features, but it does build on the foundation left behind by Android Jelly Bean.
Samsung’s Android 4.4.2 KitKat update includes an improved lock screen, emoji support, a better keyboard, and the ability to switch between stock messaging and Hangouts.
It’s still not clear when Samsung will be releasing the update for the Galaxy S4 though it’s clear that the update is coming. The update is currently slated for sometime between January and March. Rumors point to the update coming for the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 as well, with whispers pointing to a March release for both.
Samsung typically doesn’t announce details ahead of time which means that Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 owners, especially those in the United States, will probably be in the dark in the build up to their Android 4.4 KitKat update release dates.
