9 Exciting Tablets for 2014

Published

on

We’ve already taken a look at some of the exciting smartphones that rumors, leaks and history suggest will be gracing shelves in the new year and now, it’s time to switch gears and take a look at nine exciting tablets that are rumored or likely to emerge from the shadows at some point later on this year.

Last year, we saw a number of fantastic tablets hit the market, tempting consumers in the hunt for a new slate. Early in the year, we saw the Nexus 7 2013 hit shelves, bringing Android 4.3 Jelly Bean along with it. The Nexus 7 set the tone for the rest of the year as companies looked to upgrade their models from 2012 with newer tech, improved designs and useful software.

After the Nexus 7, we saw Microsoft announce the new Surface 2, a device that runs the company’s Windows 8.1 software and improves on the company’s original tablet. We also saw Amazon up the ante with its new Kindle Fire HDX, a device that packs richer specs with an improved Amazon-centric software experience.

A little later in the year, Apple announced its two new iPads in the iPad Air and the iPad mini with Retina Display. Both devices joined the tablet elite right from the get go and have set Apple up for success well into 2014.

Last year’s tablet crop presented consumers with some exciting options and we think 2014 is going to follow suit. In fact, we’ve already heard about some of the exciting tablets that may be coming to shelves later on this year to do battle for the hearts, minds and wallets of consumers in the United States and around the world.

There will be plenty of people looking to snag a new slate in 2014 and here, we take a look at the nine tablets, real and rumored, that we feel have the potential to be the most exciting tablet releases of the year.

iPad Air 2

The iPad Air is extremely new, having just been released back in November. Unfortunately, that means that rumors regarding a successor are non-existent. That doesn't mean that Apple won't release a new model in 2014. In fact, the iPad Air is regarded as one of the best tablets on the market and it would be shocking to see Apple completely skip a sequel.

Consumers should expect the company to continue to tweak and improve a device that is widely considered to be at or near the top of the tablet totem pole. As for a release, it's probably a long ways away as Apple usually releases its tablets right before the holiday shopping craze.

While we're still not sure what Apple has up its sleeve, a sequel to the iPad Air is exciting prospect nonetheless.
