Samsung Galaxy S5 & iPhone 6 Release Date Details Surface

The iPhone 6 release date is set for June according to an industry insider who earlier this morning predicted the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date would land in April and that Samsung will hold a special event in February to announce the new Galaxy S5 device. 

Samsung and Apple continue to battle for an out of court settlement on the legal side of things and in the marketplace the companies are preparing to do battle for a spot in consumer pockets with the next generation of smartphones currently called the Galaxy S5 and the iPhone 6.

While the Galaxy S5 and iPhone 6 details remain rumors and mystery, it is not a rumor that the next smartphone from each of these companies will be among the most sought after devices of 2014. There is already a rumor that the Samsung Galaxy S5 is pushing LG to speed the LG G3 release up in order to deliver a competitor quicker.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Release Date

In a tweet this morning Eldar Murtizan, the man who previously leaked the Galaxy S4 announcement date roughly a month before the actual event shared details about the Galaxy S5 launch and release.

This is a change from his previous prediction that the Galaxy S5 release would arrive in May and that the launch would not take place at Mobile World Congress 2014, but Murtizan claims Samsung made the decision to launch the Samsung Galaxy S5 last night, and that it is “a fact,” according to a follow up tweet.

Eldar Murtizan  is the editor-in-chief Analyst at Mobile Review, with many connections in the mobile community. In addition to sharing the details about previous Samsung Galaxy launches ahead of time he is also a source of leaked photos and info that arrives to him before appearing in the general marketplace.

Given the specific timing of the event and the proximity to Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Spain expect a major event to take place with satellite events in other countries and likely in New York City for a noon start. Samsung rented out Times Square for the past two Galaxy launches, and may do the same thing again to build excitement in the U.S.

The details also claim the Galaxy S5 price will stay at $199 on contract for the base model, which is a good sign if Samsung follows through with the metal design that is rumored. Murtizan also claims the new TouchWiz version we’ve seen will be on the devices, though it may come with a different name.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 release date is set for April according to this leak and that lines up with comments made by Samsung executives as well as other rumors. The Galaxy S5 release will likely take place internationally first with a Galaxy S5 U.S. release date coming in the weeks after to major carriers in the States.

iPhone 6 Release Date

The leaks don’t stop with the Galaxy S5. While Murtizan is best known for his insight into Samsung’s moves and other Android manufacturers like HTC, he shares some information on the iPhone 6 release date in a separate tweet this morning.

This rumor carries less weight than if it were from a source with more connections in the Apple world, but Murtizan’s un-named sources are vast based on the breadth of leaks he shared in the past.

The leak points to shorter product life cycles for the industry as a whole, which we are seeing with the LG G3 according to the latest rumors. While Apple set a precedent for iPhone releases in the fall, the company showed it is willing to change release timelines with the iPad. Without further collaboration the fall still seems like a safer bet for an iPhone 6 release date unless Apple also plans to shake up the iOS announcement and beta timeline it set for WWDC which takes place in June to show off the new version of iPhone and iPad software.

The latest iPhone 6 rumors suggest two models with larger screens and higher resolutions to better compete with the Samsung Galaxy S5, LG G3 and HTC One 2 (HTC m8) which are due to arrive in the coming months. Apple sold a good number of iPhones in 2013 and 2012 despite the several month lead Samsung enjoyed with the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3, but a push up to June could cut into Samsung’s sales as shoppers have less time to compare a new Galaxy S5 with a aging iPhone 5s.

The iPhone 6 release date details remain scarce compared to the flow of information about the Galaxy S5, but the next several months will likely help shape up expectations for the new iPhone.
