Galaxy S4, Note 2, Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Update Final Breakdown (2014)

With the month of January coming to an end, it’s time to take one final look at the progress Samsung and its carrier partners are making with the few remaining Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates.

All the way back in October, Samsung announced a trio of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates. The company said that it would deploy Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates for the Samsung Galaxy S4 and unsurprisingly, the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2, both of which had been rumored to be skipping Android 4.2 Jelly Bean due to issues.

The roll out began for Samsung Galaxy S4 owners in late October. Sprint and Verizon were among the first carriers to roll the update out and most Galaxy S4 owners thought that the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update process would be a quick and easy one. As it turns out, there are still Galaxy S4 owners waiting for Android 4.3 Jelly Bean to arrive.

Same goes for the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Both of these updates started landing in November and like the Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, both of these updates finished up in the United States in December. However, they did not and still have not rolled out to everyone.

Gotta Be Mobile has been tracking the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update situation for those who remain without Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. With so few updates left and most carriers remaining silent, information about the few remaining updates is hard to come by. Fortunately, we have seen some new information trickle out in recent days.

With the updates seemingly winding down, here is a final look at how the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update situation looks for those touting the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2.

Samsung Galaxy S4

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 update is, for the most part, completed. There are, however, some stragglers that still are on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. One of the few remaining updates, the Telstra Australia Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, landed a few days ago. We have, however, managed to track down one of the last bits of Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 update information.

Australian carrier Optus says that its Galaxy S4 4G Plus Android 4.3 update is ready to go and that the update should be made available in the coming weeks. We haven’t been able to track down anything further than that. Those who own that device should, however, be on the look out for the update in the near future.

From here, that update appears to be one of the only remaining Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates.

Samsung Galaxy S3

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update is still pushing out to owners as well. Most recently, the update landed for users in Romania, Thailand, Germany, and Spain. In Romania, users on Orange have received the update, in Spain its users on Yoigo, and in Germany on carrier 1&1. Those updates should be available right now.

French carrier SFR has installed a deadline of January or February for its Galaxy S3 LTE Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update and we haven’t seen that change over the past few weeks. Australian carrier Optus says that it expects to deploy the update in February though it does not specify a date for the update’s release. The carrier notes that this timing is for both the 3G and 4G versions of the Galaxy S3.

Finally, we’ve seen an interesting situation develop over at Telstra Australia. The carrier, which recently rolled out Android 4.2 Jelly Bean to the Galaxy S3, still hasn’t confirmed the update for arrival and it’s not clear if it ever will. At the moment, all it will say is that it has no news to share at this time.

If it does not roll out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, it will likely be one of the few carriers that decides to pass on the major update.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Last but not least, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update continues to emerge from hiding. According to users, it appears that one of the last major Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 updates has finally arrived. The long delayed update on Telstra reportedly has deployed, ahead of its target release date.

French carrier SFR is still saying January or February for its missing Galaxy Note 2 LTE Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update and Australian carrier Optus says that the update will emerge in the next few weeks if it hasn’t already. Finally, Australian carrier Vodafone confirmed that its Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 update passed testing and that it’s awaiting an FOTA roll out date.

That date should come soon and when it does, one of the few remaining Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates will finally have arrived.

Android 4.3 Problems

Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, and Galaxy Note 2 owners aren’t just facing a slow roll out problem. They are also facing problems on board the actual software.

Last week, we went into detail about the problems Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 owners are facing inside Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The problems range from lag to battery issues to crashes. It’s an ugly situation for some and unfortunately, there isn’t any relief in sight.

Carriers typically don’t confirm bug fix updates ahead of time and we aren’t sure if Android 4.4 KitKat will tackle any of the issues that Galaxy owners have been complaining about since the arrival of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, many weeks ago.

Android 4.4 KitKat

Next up for the Galaxy S4 is the Android 4.4 KitKat update. We’ve seen the AT&T Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update leak and we’ve heard that it should be coming in February or March, no specific date provided.

The Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 situations are a little less definitive. Rumors peg their Android 4.4 KitKat roll out dates for March or April though nothing is set in stone at this point.

Android 4.4 KitKat is expected, at least for the Galaxy S4, to be an incremental upgrade from Android 4.3 Jelly Bean boasting small changes to the UI and some smaller, but useful, features.

why are more carriers trying to roll out 4.3 when the Verizon galaxy s3 has a ton of problems like app crashes and battery problems. how are the carriers still trying to release 4.3 when there so many bugs that need to be fixed. hope a fix comes before march rather than making us wait for 4.4 to come out we just cannot wait that long.

What Seth said. My GS3 is horrible since the 4.3 update. Lagging, no wifi, no bluetooth, voice recognition is worse, crashing, etc.

DO NOT update until these issues are fixed. My “smart” phone is worse than a flip phone right now.

I use my phone for work so it is password protected. Where the numbers are there is no back ground color. Does anyone know how to change it. I guess theey changed the settings as well because anything on line is useless.

My S3 is pretty bad too. Lots of lag, battery life has definitely dropped, it will just give me a blank screen a lot or hesitate a long time when changing screens. Driving me crazy

Since update, galaxy s3 has had no WiFi, slight lags and freezes, internet has been malfunctioning, abd there’s a really crappy auto correct spelling now that I can’t turn off and can’t figure out how to turn off, and all the setting are different so when I need to figure out how to do something all the instructions I find online are no good. Very very bad for samsung and Verizon.

what is verizon or samsung doing to fix the problem nothing. all they are doing is playing that i have heard of any problems with 4.3 for the s3 game ridiculous. it will probably never get fixed untill the galaxy s6 or 7 is out so we will buy that instead.

Galaxy S3 on Verizon…updated a month ago to 4.3 and wish I had skipped it. Lag issues…slow internet..auto correct is annoying…random black screens…stupid flash goes off sometimes when messages come in or for no reason at all…and a handful of other issues I never had in over a year with the phone. Girlfriend also has the same issues on a recently purchased S3 since the update. A simple patch would be nice since it’s obvious 4.3 had lots of bugs.
