LG’s Galaxy Note 3 Rival Makes Cameo Appearance in Leak

Already slated to be officially unveiled in a few weeks at Mobile World Congress, the LG G Pro 2 will succeed the current LG G Pro and will represent the company’s answer to rival Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 phablet. Unlike the Note 3, however, the G Pro and G Pro 2 are devices that make use of a larger than average display but won’t be equipped with a stylus.

As a Note 3 competitor, the LG G Pro 2 should debut with some powerful specs and LG should be able to take on its rival in the software department with its “Q” suite of applications, including Q Slide for simultaneous multitasking. In terms of hardware features, the LG G Pro 2 will sport the same quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor that’s currently found on the Galaxy Note 3 as well as a full HD display. The LG G Pro 2 will also be compatible with LTE-Advanced networks–these networks are slated to be arriving in the U.S. sometime later this year with support for clearer quality HD voice and faster data speeds.

Additionally, it looks like the LG G Pro 2 will borrow some design cues from the current LG G2 flagship. Like the G2, the G Pro 2 will have its buttons moved and placed on the rear of the device, rather than on the sides. When LG unveiled the G2, the company said that the rear placement of the buttons was done with consideration to ergonomics as that’s where most users rest their index finger while talking on the phone. As a result, LG moved the volume keys as well as the power button to the center rear of the phone.

And according to Android Central, not only will the the LG G Pro 2 take on the Galaxy Note 3, but it looks like LG may be borrowing Samsung’s faux leather backing for its model as well.

“There is talk that the G Pro 2 will have a textured back cover similar to the faux leather rear of the Galaxy Note 3, though this photo doesn’t really make that clear,” the publication reported.

In addition to the LG G Pro 2, LG should also be unveiling an LG G3 sometime this year to take on Samsung’s rumored Galaxy S5 debut.
