Red Nexus 5 Release Date Rumored

Published

on

Last week rumors started swirling thanks to a few reports and leaks suggesting Google was preparing to launch a revamped Google Play Store listing of the Nexus 5, complete with nearly 8 different color options.

Fast forward to today and while those rumors could still be accurate, the most up to date details are that Google will be releasing a Red Nexus 5, followed by Yellow, and possibly a few more as February and March roll on. Earlier this week the Red Nexus 5 leaked all boxed up and ready to ship to customers, and now AndroidCentral is reporting the new color variant will launch on February 4th.

If all the recent leaks and reports are accurate, Google is preparing to offer its flagship smartphone in at least one more color over the standard black and white, but we could be seeing multiple more bright and florescent options arrive over the next month or two. Starting with Red as shown above, and then yellow.

Below is reportedly an internal screenshot acquired by AndroidCentral, possibly from a Sprint retailer, suggesting the US release date of the new Red Nexus 5 will be February 4th both on the Google Play Store, and at participating carriers like Sprint. It reportedly “confirms” the 4th is the day, and it will be arriving in time for buyers to snag one for Valentine’s Day.

Again, we’ve yet to see or hear any official reports, but likely LG and Google will have something to say shortly. Or like past Google devices we’ll hear nothing and suddenly it will just be available on the 4th from the Google Play Store.

Google’s Red Nexus 5 should offer the exact same Android 4.4.2 KitKat experience as the regular version, and thus users can expect the same $349 16GB and $399 32GB pricing come February 4th.
